This happened near Camden Arkansas yesterday.
Driver survived the wreck but was walking back to the truck
when it exploded and was killed. Three firemen were also injured.
Made a heck of a hole in the road.

It sure was awful, but the guy didn't know how much danger he was in,he should run, instead of trying to put it out, That's what they used to blew up the Mura building in Oklahoma City with.

There was one in OZ a while back. Rattled the local hospital about 30 km away. Some links

I didn't know how dangerous it is until I just did some reading.

Apparently just exposing it to heat or fire will set it off.

I thought it had to be mixed with gasoline or diesel, or some kind of preparation, but evidently not.

That's scary! Think how much of that stuff is stored nearby, or in transit...

mmonium nitrate is the oxidizer & in this case, the truck fuel and perhaps the 'fuel' from the burning tires was the fuel source(s).

Hey, was just wondering if you might be interested in a bridge? It's a nice one and you are the only one I'm offering it to!

(quoted from post at 14:57:51 03/29/19) Yeah but how many of us would have tried to put the fire out too

What is there about a fire that makes alpha males think they have to put it out?

YES, if there's some chance of saving human life, no so much if it's too late to save the burning item, and simply letting it go will make cleanup easier?

Back about 1945 a ship loading A.N. at a Texas City, Tx. dock blew up. Story should be easy to pull up. Blew half the town away. I remember playing in my front yard on a Saturday morning and heard the boom some 35 miles away. Sunday's Houston Chronicle had the story. Wasn't nice.

If he was going from El Dorado to Texarcana he could have run Hwy 82 direct, what was he doing up by Camden on 278?
I once hauled 51 tons of A.N. from Yazoo City, Ms to some small burg in east Texas. Dumped it on the ground and they stuck an auger in it and moved it into a shed.
