Pitted 1927 differential - the right stuff?

I got a really pitted differential housing and cover on my 1927 Gotfredson farm truck. Do you think “the right stuff” gasket maker will work on this?

The right stuff works very well. It will seal up those pits without a problem. if you have to take the cover off again it will he a pain, but it will not leak! It is a great product

SVcummins is right, but if you already have the Right Stuff product use it, they are practically the same, but Stuff is stiffer and harder to work with.

Hi, you could use jbweld to fill in the holes if you wish. Sand
it smooth and use a normal gasket. Ed Will Oliver BC

I highly recommend MotoSeal, it seals very well but much much easier to take apart, (than Right stuff) should you need to.

Ed Will beat me to it. Jb weld takes more time to do right but I would rather take the time to make the surface nice and flat again before I would goober it up with something.

This is specifically what gasket makers are designed to do. Whatever product you have will work, but I probably wouldn't want to use the grey color.

There are multiple products labeled under the "right stuff" brand. They are not all the same, the black is more flexible and doesn't bond nearly as tight as grey.

If it is cleaned up good and a real gasket used it will seal fine. Most of what you are showing is just spots left after it was machined.
I don't know why everybody wants to get that junk in the rollers of the bearings then wonder why they failed or how.

Loctite makes a product , Quick Metal compound # 660
we use it here at our dealership just what you need for that.

An 1/8" bead of Permatex Ultra Gray or Black will easily seal that up. Clean first with brake cleaner or acetone. When making the
perimeter bead, encircle each bolt hole as you get to it. Put the cover on quickly and tighten bolts finger tight only and let it
sit a half hour before snugging them down.

In my experience, Right Stuff is a little thick for that application and seems to have less working time than Ultra Black.

That surface is not bad.

A regular paper gasket will seal it so long as the cover is not deformed.
