Looking at a IH 420 square baler with bale thrower on it. Is in shed but hasn't been used for many years. Anyone have an idea what this is worth??
 
As far as what it would bring say at auction, that would depend on whether anyone wanting it for collector value, I paid 450 last year for a very nice Case 220; but I wanted to bale a few with it and my Case 530. If buying from an estate I would just ask and if they were ridiculously high just wait until they figured out I was the only one interested. About 300 for using, 500 if you just gotta have it.
 
$500 would be generous.

More likely $200 at an auction with the dust on it from many years of not running.

I had a 430 baler with a 10 thrower on it. It wasn't a bad baler. Seemed the harder you pushed it, the better it baled. Had it where you couldn't even see the pickup on it, and it kept on going. Bales were always nice shaped. No banana bales. The knotters are different on them compared to other makes. Keep the tension springs on the twine adjusted and the knives that cut the twine on the knotters sharp and it will be fine. I just upgraded to a CIH 8530 inline.
 
I ran just under a thousand bales through my ih 440 it missed 3 bales the first two because there was no twine in the bale chamber and another one because straw out of a 40 foot wide combine header was a little to much for it to handle and I had the tension a little to tight and it popped a string the knot was fine
 
I don't know the model numbers but everyone in my area that had a IH baler always had tying problems with them,they were the older models and they bring next to nothing at auctions.
 
I think the ones without the all twine were the ones that had problems? Just from what the fine fellows on this board said
 
The 45 was the one with the problems, the 46 was good and we did not have to worry about untied bales with the thrower.
