my issue with my dad has gotten worse,today before 330 my girl said he was in our home 5 times,its come to the point I have to prevent him from entering all my buildings,im extremely worried my shop could be burned down,as well as my barn.we live close together,within walking distance.i think I can use the open bar holder type that hold a 2 by 4 on all the doors but 1 in each building.i am refusing to use a keyed lock,a few of my closest friends have a key for my shop,and dad will con them into letting him in.so im thinking of a power keyless lock with a code that only my imediant family will know.i am a diabetic and needed a a few emt calls over the years,so im thinking I can notify the local 911 of the code,of they must call a family member for the code.does this sound like a good idea ??...girl just called,make that six times today,i hate to be an a-hole but my family needs some privacy,or I have to sell and move away......

Have the key pad on home and shop. Really like it and if you have a handyman coming or someone needs to get in for something just give them the code.

It might be time for a different residence for the dad. Assisted living is an answer that can work. My dad was a case in point, and could not be trusted to be safe or to think of others. It is not cruel it is humane. medication can make things better, but if they are alone, restricting them from your property with no other intervention may be the edge over which they travel. Jim

I like the keypad lock systems. That way, you don't forget the key at home or in the house.

Sorry to hear this, I agree with Jim. I?m all about supporting family up to a point. If this is really stressing you and possibly putting other family members in danger you need to take strong measures to change this situation. I?m praying you will find a tolerable solution. I remember you posting about this situation late last year.

If he is getting that way would he start doing it to a neighbor? May be start of alshimers and need to be in a controles situation. Mom when she got it started wandering. After She dissapeared Dad called us to help find her across the field a quarter mile. Went out the door to go help look for her and happened to look to the side and saw her crawling into an old falling down corn crib and carring the family dog. So how much longer is it untill he starts doing something like that? At that time we changed the locks to require a key that Dad carried in his pocket to get out as well as in and also so She could not get into other rooms of the house as She was cought destroyin valubale papers, So it might not be just a problem with him getting in your home. Hard to think about but consider it that he is needing to be in a home all doors are monitered at all times.
