About as wrong as the M Farmall,or the 8N painted green and yellow.Or the (y&g)WD45 with 3020 decals. But hey,the farmer had have all his tractors color matched.LOL

as Larry the Cable Guy says....i dont care who ya are, that theres funny!!

HA! thats awesome! where was that tractor at?

My favorite wrong picture was a Farmall M painted green and yellow with a sign on it that read "John Deere's ideal tractor." It was said it nearly caused a couple of fights at a John Deere show.

That being said, I own my Dad's 41 Farmall H I was raised on which has an easy life now, and 3 cubs that still work for a living. When I go to shows I like to see all different brands and colors, especially if they have implements with them. I really like the ones that you can tell are still being used, whether they are painted up or still in their work clothes. The real shiny ones that have two or three coats of paint, and a couple coats of clear coat, and hand polished I normally glance at and walk on by.

Somebody has a fairly rough Steiger Bearcat (220hp) from that same era on the local CL for $23,000! It's green too, but not JD green. Funny how a 325hp Panther only sold for $6900. Think the color killed it?

Being a John Deere man I think it is OK. I had my Farmall H painted Flambeau red (Case) and IH red with a locally made decal.

I remember a custom farming operator that had all of his equipment Oliver green. Didn?t make any difference what brand, they all became Oliver green. NH balers and rakes, and those silver White combine, all became Oliver green. Many high way construction companies paint all of their equipment, dozers, grades, hoes and farm tractors in their fleet the company colour scheme. So what is the big deal?

We demoed one of those back in the day. We liked it over the Versatile but the Versatile was cheaper so we ended up going with a 950. It turned it to be a really good tractor too. None of this late 70s and 80s equipment isn?t worth much which is good if you are trying to get started in farming. This summer I saw a JD 7720 T2 mint condition sell for $5,500 and a 9600 from the same farm sell for $12,000.

I knew you would chime in!! Do you think it should of had a Detroit? 6-71 or 8-71---Tee

Couldn?t be a John Deere it has outboard final drive and clamp on duals it?s not like a Steiger has enough hydraulics or maneuverability to need row crop duals anyway

I had a ST-250 with a 3306 Cat in it-you are right about the hydraulics. It did not have a PTO so I ran a Hydraulic sprayer pump on it-when you turned the steering wheel you could see the sprayer pump actually stop. Traded that for a Cougar 1000 with a Cummins L-10-alot better but the power shift transmission would about throw you through the rear window.---Tee

Might be wrong, but looks pretty sharp to me! Farmer up north in Washington would paint everything white, even the power poles on his place(at least for as high as he could reach!).

That was Pete Tagares. Word is that he wanted everyone to know how big his farm was, and where all his equipment was working.

Ok, I'll bite as I have wondered about that (basic curiosity) for quite some time.......why so cheap? Ready to crash and parts and labor are either non-existant or priced out of sight?

Yup the 310 is a better engine as it was the 3406 much heavier and better engine with the capability to handle the work. The 3306 was at it's highest level of ability at the 270-300 range. There fore it was not as durable in that power requirement. The 3406 was in the lowest levels of power out put for that engine. A cummapart is that even an engine?

(quoted from post at 14:51:50 12/27/18) Somebody has a fairly rough Steiger Bearcat (220hp) from that same era on the local CL for $23,000! It's green too, but not JD green. Funny how a 325hp Panther only sold for $6900. Think the color killed it?

Ghostdncr, it is the same with equipment of all types. I bought a chainsaw very cheap once because I happened to be at a friend's shop when he was telling a logger that his saw was not worth $15.00 on a trade because it was too used for another logger and too big for a homeowner. I got it for $15.00.

If it was a $69,000 tractor or a $169,000 tractor, I would agree with keeping it in stock colors helps the value. On a forty year old $6,900 tractor, the paint color does not make a great deal of difference. Budweiser is even adding their brand name graphics to some new combines. Does CNH own the Steiger plant now and paints the new tractors red?

The people that worked in Steiger's marketing department should be proud that they gained such strong brand and color loyalty.
