...in Cohoctah been shut down most of two weeks now. Problems with the dump pit they don't seem to be able to get fixed. Waited a good while for weather to get cold and the ground to freeze. Ran my first load up there the day it broke and was turned away. I did not wait for the weather to warm up. Got it all picked and trucked it 20+ additional miles out to Webberville and sold it there. Got 30 cents more a bushel, gave me a healthy profit on my truck costs BUT....the water pump went out on the last trip and, well as they say...there goes the profits. Some of it anyways. :)

Hey.... the best thing is you got your crop off and sold....some times you gotta say damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
Good for you.

Our nearest one had a 65 year old bronze gear break. Had to spend 20 grand to have one made.
They were down a long time.
I asked them what type of oil they were going to put in the big gearbox. Fellow said 90 weight. I told him to make sure he got "yellow metal safe" oil. He had not heard of that.
Glad I talked to him.

Check on ADM in Decatur, IL. Had a bad explosion at the rail dump at the East plant, corn for ethanol. One of the few times that no one was killed. I hear about 2 years before it is completely fixed.

At Farmer City ADM, the top 4 were fired right before harvest over a grade problem, yet Decatur wanted to carry inventory into fall but didn't want to eat the damage. This fall was a 3 hour wait to dump in Decatur plus a $.oo basis but $.56 basis in Farmer City 30 miles away.

I guess they might as well climb on our backside, everyone else is. Oh well at least we should have cheap Smithfield hams since they are having cheap feed prices and no tariff from the mother land on their ham. Merry Christmas to capitalism in today's world, or should that be Ba Humbug!!!

Thanks...glad it did not overheat before I hit the barn. I had bought two jugs of coolant on the way home but could not get the rad cap off. Not sure what the trick to that thing is but a nail biter of a ride home and frequent checks under the hood. The only gauge that does not work on the truck is the temperature. It was 25 degrees out and I caught it early. Life is good. :)

We do not buy any Smithfield products, we do not want to subsidize the Chinese owned pork industry. China owns Smithfield so when you buy those products, the profits pay for the pork (whole carcass hogs) delivered to China. When they buy our soybeans I will reconsider.

Did you ever get your own grain bins ? IIRC I think you were looking for some ?
Many of the local grain elevators in my area have closed up and been torn down.

Before you start shouting about the evils of capitalism look at what socialism has done to farmers in socialistic countries. Plus you should really watch the news https://www.agriculture.com/markets/newswire/grains-soybeans-rise-as-china-buys-more-us-shipments-0

Much as we liked them, (both Dad, and I worked for different generations of the family), not only did we get more for our crops at ADM, out wagons miraculously held about 20+ bu. more there too.
