I am amazed at what those things can do. We got a 4440 stuck doing some fall tillage and then stuck a second one trying to get it out. Brought that little crawler out and it tugged them out with no drama. One at a time of course.... Have fun with that project. It always always good to breath life back in to this old iron.

SVC;
That is going to be fun to watch. I have a 1958 420W slant steer, 5 speed, orchard exhaust that I am working on now. I know you will keep us posted, I look forward to it. Dsmythe

Parts were a lot easier to get and lower priced too 20 years ago. Hope you can still get what you need.

I was just looking through the Martin parts catalog and looks a complete engine kit and gasket will run about 900$ . The last time I checked with John Deere all the parts to rebuild the steering clutch was about 900$ . Then I need a lot of little parts it will probably be a 5000$ project or more I?m sure . I need to find a one or two bottom drawn type plow and I have a disk that it can pull

They do have a lot of pull in the Nebraska tests they tested almost as much max drawbar pull as a 620

Wow, I recently priced a complete engine overhaul kit for my Case 770 4 cyl. 267cu.in. diesel tractor and it was less money than that. Did you check the price of an engine kit from here at YT.
Good luck to you. Hope you have a nice warm shop to work in. Mine stays about 60-65F all winter and my old bones need that. Keep us posted.

PS I replied down below about the toy 931.

I have not looked at yt . I did check with Steiner and they were about the same money . I checked John Deere as well , they have the parts but they don?t have a kit already to go

I have a lot of seat time on 40C with Braden winch. My dad had a couple he used to skid logs. As I recall the first thing I drove at a very young age.

SV before you buy too many parts you need to contact Lavoy Wilcox at www dot jdcrawlers dot com. His site and he sells many parts. Many of the parts available elsewhere are chineese junk. His email is postmaster at jdcrawlers dot com.

I second that idea, and join his forum too. More dedicated JD crawler info there than anywhere else.

When I was about 5-6, we had a HUGE! pile of dead elm trees that had gotten the Dutch Elm disease. Grandpa had paid to have them pushed out, they just made a huge, messy pile full of dirt, and it didn't burn well. Dad spent years fiddling around cutting wood, pulling limbs out with our MI or 1010. He used to start a little campfire in the morning so my sister and I would stick around with him while he worked, we picked up sticks and kept the fire going.

A machinist from the company Dad worked for had gotten an old JD 40 crawler with blade, he made many new and improved parts for it himself. He brought that thing over and it was amazing what he could do- the little tractor was so strong, and he had some experience with engineering tree and stump removal. He had the pile cleaned up and the ground reclaimed in what seemed like no time. Would not take any money from Grandpa for the job, was just happy to get that crawler out and work it hard.

I've got a John Deere single bottom,steel wheel hand-trip sitting in the hedgerow. Always wanted to do something with it but seem to never have time, hate to see it unused. Somewhere I've got pictures of dad using it back around 1971 or so, likely the last time it worked...
