i musta had a bad 4640; it drank fuel, whether it was under a load or not. just my luck to get a bad one!

If that 4640 is what you have, then use it. It will consume no more fuel than a tractor 1/2 that size.

JD 4640's weren't known for their outstanding fuel economy. I'll bet my Ford 6700 will use less than 1/2 the GPH of diesel pulling my 14 wheel rake as a 4640

Pulled a double John Deere bar rake with an 8400 John Deere . Under a light load like that it won?t use much more fuel than a 60 hp. Tractor a Diesel engine isn?t like a gas engine

I have john deere 704 12 wheel rake and I have pulled it over the year with farmall M,oliver 1755,case 1370,ihc 1466 and even used the 400 farmall this year.Takes about the same fuel with big ones as the little ones.I use what ever tractor is free at the moment.Scott

all i know is that some people cant just find humor in stuff...to me, that was DANG funny....relax and enjoy a good laugh instead of pointing out the joke wasnt as accurate as you THINK it should be....

jeez.....Thanks LittleD. :)

Those 35 year old tractors are now small tractors by today's standards. Much like John Deere D, and Case LA were small and obsolete for tillage back in our days. They still worked for some secondary jobs. Use the tractors what you have on hand.
