welding fenders

I made patches and welding them into the rusted out holes in the fenders. I welded them on the back side of the fender. Some of the weld has gone all the way through the fender. In some areas the butt joint is not fused. Do I need to weld them also or can I just clean them up and use some body filler and sand it smooth again.

I once mig-welded some holes in a pick up bedside.I welded while the owner held a brass pin underneath and it turned out smooth looking. Mark.

Fenders are really impossible to repair. Vibration, the fact both sides are visible, and rust forming between brackets and skins all conspire to get you. I recommend replacing.

Use a back up block of brass or aluminum to stop the burning through.

Use the stitch method, a series of spots so not to get so hot, keep connecting the spots until a solid weld. Grind and go back where necessary. Keep doing that and the weld will not be visible. Just be careful grinding that you don't thin the metal too much. Use a flapper disc for the final grind, it makes a very good finish.

You can't plug holes with Bondo. It will eventually fail.

I did a lot of welding on my orchard fenders. I laid a piece of broken wheel rake tine over the crack and welded on the tine on the back side of the fender. What little bit of damage was visable on the front side,I ground down with the angle grinder with a fine disc, then if I had to,I used body filler.

I have a solid continuous weld on the backside of the fender. When you turn it over, to look at the front, that is when you see where the butt joint is not filled in, in a continuous line. That is the part where I was wondering if I could fill it with body filler, or will vibration cause the body filler to fail?
After I had read my original post, again, I thought that it may have been clearly stated.
