There was a car show today,,not very far from us,The flyer said rain or shine,so the wife and I went to check it out.

I didnt expect to see much,it was lightly raining and cool

No regular cars were there at all,but somehow a race car collecting club hung in for the day.

Thanks for joining the wife and I today

Nice pics!! Daddy talked
about going to Williamsport,
Pa years ago to see sprint
cars on dirt. Said they had
a beautiful sound with those
Offenhauser engines!!

There is a 1/4 mile banked dirt race track near me.

Everything is changed now, mufflers, etc., and highly regulated like slot cars, but I am just old enough to remember the glory days of sprint car racing in Lawrenceburg, IN.

I was small and it was rare when I could see the sprint cars race in the late 50s - early 60s, but I remember watching the mostly Oldsmobile and Cadillac powered cars with 3, 4 or 6 Stromberg carburetors and open exhausts roaring around the short track, drivers looking out of the side windows (if any) to see where they were going, wildly cranking the large (no power assist) steering wheels side to side to avoid hitting the cars just feet or inches from either side.

Yes, the track is still there and they still hold super modified and WOL events but I do not attend. The thrill is gone.

I'll bet their race got cancelled, so they decided to do something else, as long as they were all there.

It would take guts to sit behind the engine and over the differential in that "slingshot" dragster at full power!

sprint cars on dirt tracks! Tall Kid and I went to the Nationals at Knoxville Ia. for many years.
I wonder if they are still as exciting?

Wow, Larry! Thanks for taking the time to post the pics! They look really neat! I've never seen VW powered midgets before.

Neat stuff......I have an original Solar rail frame dirt midget built by the Solar Aircraft Co. in San Diego Ca. after WWII. Always great to see restored open wheel cars. Thanks
