When I read you topic I thought it must be a case. When I worked at the local dealer that was one to two a week with broken axles!

Kinda funny if it?s in the Case IHC line.... they had troubles with axles breaking way back with the 300 and 4x0 series of tractors.....

Saw a 1530 McCormick at a tractor show with one side of the axle up on blocks and a complete snapped off steel front lying beside.

Case ever figure out why??
This is lightly use on my farm now.. Ive had it now for 12 years... figure the initial crack happened before I got it..

What model of CASE skid steers are you talking about. I sold dozens of CASE 1840s to dairy farmers, and never saw an axle failure. Perhaps the older 1530's had an issue, but never saw that either.

I worked road construction for the same company for 37 years, they ran Case skid-loaders the whole time, then bought a few Cats when they came out. They had 40 to 60 Case skid-loaders on jobs every year, there where a lot of rum heads that used and abused those machines every day. I can't say they never broke an axle, but broken axle's where never an issue. We had one that had been hauled on a boom truck and had been dropped on a big chunk of concrete when it was unloaded . It bent the bottom pan so much that it rubbed a hole in the oil pan, that one never broke an axle.

I believe, from what I can tell from your picture, the axle was cracked over a period of time, not just one sudden shock. So I would say it broke due to repeated, excessive shock loads. Mark.

this is a 1840.. ive had 12 years.. assuming as already said that it was cracked before I got it.... even 12 years ago.. I wouldnt say I baby it but I dont abuse it..

Be thankful you can order a new one. The axle on my CL 40 broke years ago and none were available so I had it repaired. It lasted about 8 years when it broke a second time. I bought a used axle off E-Bay and when I got it saw that it was also an older repair. It has been on the machine for 2 years with no issues. I'm very cautious about sharp turns and hard digging, but I'm sure my issue will return. If you are going to keep the machine for a while, you might want to get a spare.
