Stupid massey ferguson combines!

Was helping a neighbor with his
combine today. We were trying to set
the concave. They have a cam setup
that you use a 4' wrench on that comes
with the combine. The concave was
stuck, so I gave it a hard pull. Well
it let loose then! Too bad my hand was
between the wrench and cylinder drive
gear box. 9 stitches later and I'm
back in business. I can't see a case
combine causing me this kinda grief.

I reakky dislike machines that require massive force (starter lever on a RUMELY) It never fails to have something dangerous about it. The cylinder on a McCormick SP125 had a 1.25"X3' square bar to turn it backwards if plugged. Nasty. Jim

i have an 850 massey and i kinda liked that set up. can open or close the concaves from right in the cab. even the stone trap you use a wrench to open it kinda handy also. that unit musta never been had anything moved in a while. just too bad it had to bite you.

My John Deere 7700 has a knob in the cab for the concave . Dad had a Massey 750 and I think the wrench is still around here

yes, the case has a crank in the cab too. I've run several jd combines, a gleaner L2, New holland 1500, IH 715 and 915. I've never run a Massey tho.

Ouch. Hope it feels better soon. One of my best days farming was when my Massey 410 left down the drive.

Jon sorry you got hurt and hope it heals well. Of course a Case combine wouldn't do that. They haven't made a Case bine in decades, don't think there are any out there that still work.......

Glad you got it taken care of. Just about anyone who is around machinery will get stitches sometime. At least you will not do that again. Stan

Did you take "tufala Panadol"?

That's gotta hurt a lot, Jon. Glad you didn't break any bones. I drew a lot of blood doing custom combining with dad and later a neighbor. MM pull type-IHC 203-JD 40- M2 gleaner-IHC 1460 all of them got me sooner or later, but not as bad as you. Good luck and hope you heal fast. Gary.

I use to work on combines a lot off the truck,,and it seemed like there was always a sharp edge to peel back some skin when a wrench slipped,,I would look like I had been in a Knife fight after a big job... My GrandPa would tell me that when he got older he got hurt quicker and stayed hurt longer....
