Beware of this bunch

Dowson Farms
Divernon, Illinois

John C. Dowson, the old man who ran the farm before turning
the farm over to son Chris.

John wouldn?t shake hands with me when I met him. Sure
sign of a lack of honesty and integrity as I soon found out.
They hire laborers who couldn?t work anywhere else. The not
too sharp kind. Gives Dowsons control over them and they
obey every command without question.

If a Dowson can?t get their way they just open that fat
government subsidy wallet and pay whatever it takes to get it.

They paid the government over $5 million dollars to buy their
way out of a shady subsidy scam they were caught in.

True to their dishonesty, I witnessed their attempt to payoff
rather than face the truth.

How is this relevant??? It appears to have happened in 2014.

The issue is farm payment limits. I hate to tell you the farm programs are a total joke. They try to maintain the illusion that there are small farms growing large amounts of the crop. The opposite is the truth. Larger farms grow the majority of the crops grown in the US.

I say there is a much simpler solution. Get the government out of farming period!!!! It will never happen. The USDA is doing a great job keeping food cheap and plentiful for the masses. Even when you add in the cost of the farm programs it is way less than commodities would cost in a true supply and demand environment.

J.D. you are so right. They keep dangling a worm in front of us just enough so we don't quit and the country would be without food. Abolish the subsidy and let the chips fall where they may. I would be all-right with or without subsidy.

I don't claim to have the answers, but it's just more wealth redistribution. Working people pay the taxes to fund the subsidies to keep food cheap, and the parasites of society get to take advantage of that.

"Get the government out of farming period!!!!

Bingo!

You are right, of course. Such will never happen. When was the last time that the government ever let go of anything after once becoming involved?

I've heard of their tactics. They do rent some ground around us. Most of the time the leases arent renewed. Our local elevator refused to take their grain

Ya have to wonder of those who say "Keep the gov't out of farming," either do not file for or return the subsidies?

We have not taken any government subsidies in over 20 years. It has made us more profitable this way. We produce what we can sell at a profit. We pay rents that we can afford. We know we need to forward price/contact/hedge what we produce. These changes have made life actually much easier for us. When your tied to the government your always worrying about what changes the government is going to do to you.

Government has been in farming since the 30's not going to get out anytime soon. Besides most of the Farm bill is not going to the farmer anyway. Most of it goes to school food programs WIC all kinds of public food assistance programs, and some to other areas of ag production.
