Mostly ot garden hose reel

Like I said mostly OT. With the drought going on I'm using the garden hose a lot more to water cattle. Does anyone make a decent one anymore. I seem to get 3-6 months out of one before it starts to get bad. I put 150 feet of 5/8 hose on it and when I reel it back I pick it up in a couple places along the way so the cart doesn't have to pull the entire stretch at one time. I have bought every heavy duty cart from every store around and none last. At $100 or so a cart that's getting expensive. Last one I bought was $200 and was really nice until the swiveling reel literally broke off yesterday. I wouldn't mind spending more money for a good one if it would last longer than the cheaper models. I saw a place called Eley hose reels online and theirs looks nice. At almost $400 for one though I would really like to know if someone from YT has one and if they are worth it. Thank you.

I have not found a good hose reel good hose yes. I ended up buying a reel just to store the hose on. The best one I have seen was made from an old wood wire reel.

Short answer? No, not that I have been able to find. I suppose there are industrial versions out there?
I find it easier to just use a hanger and loop the hose over it rather than fighting a light weight reel that also always leaks at the swivel. The trick is to mount it high enough that you can make long loops, about chest high and to spend for quality hose for no kinks. At the barns we use and old car wheel, at the house the MS wanted something a bit more looksie so we have store bought hangers

If you use a hose that much to water cattle and in the same place everyday, why not bury a water line and put a hydrant closer to where it is needed. Cost of those carts will go a long way to pay for it. You could probably get it done for under $2 a foot or closer to a $1 a foot.

I have a neighbor that waters his 80 pairs everyday in the same place. And has for my whole life.

The tank is about 200 yards from the hydrant. He loads water and hauls in a 1000 gal tank.

I have never figured out why he doesn't bury a water line that 200 yards and put a hydrant and float and valve on the tank.

We have water lines buried 1/2 mile back into the pastures with hydrants at every lot to avoid hauling. They have been there since 1970.

If you can find a hose real from a old gas truck ( the kind thy deliver fuel to the farm) it has a electric rewind and a hand crank. Bob

se two wheels at about 5-6 feet apart and loop in figure 8 to avoid links.

Not a bad idea just not very feasible for me. I have 4 separate water tanks to fill at the house and have to haul water down the road to a pasture.

I have 4 hose reels. I buy the cheap ones, around $100, with 4 wheels from Menards or RK and they have lasted me forever. Tires are always flat. I drain mine in winter. Freezing will damage them. They easily handle 150 ft of 3/4 hose. I think I've put 225 ft of 3/4 on some.

Unless the plastic components are affected by sunshine, I would engineer better bearings or pivot/swivels and make improvements. Jim
