I got this jd toy in a box of stuff at an
auction. I've ordered new wheels from
Dakota toys. I am having a difficult time
removing the rear axle from it. The axle has
been cut off even with the housings. I've
pecked on it with a small hammer and punch
but it doesn't want to budge. I'm afraid of
hitting a little harder and breaking it. I
haven't taken one like this apart. It almost
looks like the axle holds both sides of the
casting together.

Kansas4010,

These toy tractors do not have an axle that goes all the way through the body. They are a stub pressed into the housing. You will very carefully have to drill it out with a 1/8 bit. Use a 1/8 piece of dowel rod or a 1/8 rivet to make a new one.

Ok. Thank you very much. I was thinking about drilling it out but figured I had better get advice from people who would know.

I don't know much about any that old. I looked online and did know it was a high post from looking at pictures. I assume it's an earlier model then. The few places I saw one's like it claimed they were Eska. Maybe they were as clueless as I am though. Any suggestions on where to research these toys?
