Gas Tank Liner

I also use Red Kote. It's been in one of my gas tanks for more than 10 years. Then I had another vehicle I put a new tank in and I coated it with Red Kote before ever putting any gas in it.

Bill Hirsch Auto has been selling this stuff forever, similar to Red Kote I suspect, a single-component liquid material. I suspect a lot of antique auto part outfits that are closer to you than they are handle it, but you can buy it direct from them as well, here's the link below. Minimal cleaning of the tank interior is necessary, just try to loosen up the bigger stuff and dump or vacumn it out before using the sealer. White in color, I have used it on several tanks ..... along with the Red Kote stuff, that's also very good.

POR works excellent. I've used it in 5 of my old tractors. It has been in one tractor for about 13 years.

Unless the tank has rust holes that leak gasoline, you do not need any tank liner. If the tank is contaminated with old, varnished gasoline, FRESH gasoline will clean it. If the tank has rust in it, muriatic acid will get rid of it. A clean tank is better than a tank with a liner product that just covers up the bad stuff.

Rusty, I think you make a lot of good points, especially about "covering up" problem areas ....... but I do
question your comment that fresh gas will remove tank varnish. So, just put in fresh gas and the varnish
dissolves or somehow disappears? Never heard of that happening before. Can it really be that easy?

The varnish is nothing more than what is left after the gasoline evaporates. Yes, fresh gasoline will dissolve it, but don't try to just add fresh gas and then run the engine. The tank should be removed so that the dissolved varnish can be rinsed out.

Just put Casewell epoxy tank sealer in my motorcycle tank. It is supposed to work well. I have used POR 15 with no problems.
