Worn out pin

I wonder how many hours it took to wear like that.

I have had some bad ones before and even kept some new ones on hand. But that is the worst one I have seen ! Lucky you caught it before it snapped with a load on it.
 
Mack camelback suspension will wear the trunnion shaft like that,when you see them taken out of the truck you will wonder if you ever want to drive that truck again.
 
15000 to 20000 hours? I’ve never seen one worn that bad either. I’m trying to think of any one implement that would cause more drawbar wear than any other implement.
 
I pulled one out of a Deere 620 that was worn that bad. I have never seen a 10 or 20 series wear like that only two cylinders. Would the uneven firing of the two cylinder engine make it wear like that? Tom
 
Bob - that pin is off of an early JD 50. Our family has owned that tractor for about 40 years, and it has only ran a square baler over maybe 40 acres total in the years that we owned it. I don't know the history of it before it came into our hands, but I've always thought that it had seen a lot of baler time in it's first 25 years. The hitch pin hole is severely worn too. I knew this pin was sloppy, but didn't think it was that bad. As far as drawbar work while we owned it, it was mostly used for raking hay and dragging pasture - sometimes pulled a Sparta harrow in disked ground - light work. It's my mowing tractor.

About a year ago, I dropped the front end of another tractor in a sinkhole and we hooked the little 50 up to help it out. It danced the front end quite a bit before we got it out of the hole. It has like new tires and 100 lb of weights on each wheel - I'm surprised the pin held together with that little test.

I'm gonna set that old pin on a shelf in the shop for a conversation piece. That tractor has produced several interesting worn parts.

Check the bolts where the assembly mounts to the bottom of the tractor too.
Mine wore the bolt holes out running a 14T baler for decades.
 
The front drawbar holes for this pin look good, but the hitch pin hole is well worn.
 
Royse - the support assembly was bolted tight to the final drive housing, but the holes for this pin are somewhat elongated.
