3 point caddy, anybody ever built one?

So this is another one of my not yet fully thought out ideas. I've been looking for a 3-point hitch to go on a Farmall. Looking on Craigs list and a few other places. It occurred to me that they have 3point kits around for every tractor EXCEPT the tractor I have. At least it seems that way. So heres my half thought out idea. I've seen 3-point caddys for cat3 equipment. Mostly for rippers and big stuff like that for use behind bare back articuled tractors. What would stop me from building something like that for cat1 or cat2 equipment? My thought is to take a three point assembly and bolt it to the back half of a wagon running gear. I could just run long hyd hoses up to the hitch. Also a setup like this could be used behind any tractor. Those 3 points can be had cheap if your not needing it to fit any specific brand or model of tractor. Also the old 5-6 ton wagon running gears can be found cheap. I realize I'd loose the tight quarters maneuverability but for what I'd be using it for ( cultivater, back blade, etc.) it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Only problem I could see is balance. If I had heavy equipment on it and picked it up the hitch would come up. I would have to either make hitch longer or add weight or both. I 'm not worried about a Pto. Mainly would use it for a back blade, box blade or a row crop cultivater. Or maybe a bale stabber

I always thought that would be a good idea i can?t
see why it wouldn?t work you might have to add a
little weight to it like your saying . I got the idea for
making one after seeing a disk that had a 3 point
hitch on the back to mount a v ripper

I could maybe see using the back half of a running gear, but not a whole 4-wheel running gear. A 2 wheel
cart is shorter, easier to back-up, would have the full weight of the back of the tractor to counter-
balance the weight of the implement your lifting. And it would not be that hard to install a PTO shaft
that would run from tractor's pto shaft to the ASAE approved dimensions of the pto to cat 1 & 2 3-pt hitch.
That would let you pull a bush hog, even a post hole digger.

Even when Dad had a tractor with 3 pt hitch we never used it for a single thing, well, we used the
rockshaft of the 4010 with the included pipe or bar to lift/lower the left side of the front mounted
cultivator. That pipe/bar running 3-4 inches above the left side of the platform made a GREAT tripping
hazard getting off the tractor, resulting in a FACE PLANT into the gangs of the cultivator. I'd like to
meet the SOB Engineer that thought that was a good idea.

What farmall are you trying to fit? I know of one to fit a 300 for sale. I built a 3 point for my H farmall, not difficult at all. Used 8N Ford arms and leveling box got from a scrapper for $50. Couple used cylinders and a Saturday of fabrication. Happy to send pics if you want to see. Had another 3 point designed for a 706 that had a standard drawbar, would have been another simple project but I sold that one before I could finish it.

No problem. Go for it. Seen several over the years. they seem to work well. I'd find Some kind of an ols axle. A 3/4 ton pickup axle or narrowed trailer house axle might be just the ticket.

Amish builtuse a hand operated winch that woulf be easily replaced with a culinder when they are made. Would work for all but that cultivator as you could not keep it on the row.

I made a cat 0 unit to pull with a lawn tractor, used with a back blade and it worked well. Had a manual lift, used it to grade drive.

I had one planned out in my head once. I was going to remove the gangs from a small wheel disc. Three point behind the wheels and coulters in
place of the front gangs. I don't know if it would have lifted high enough.
