Hope he volunteers.........

This guy is about 100 yards behind my shop and about 50 yards from my blind. I have a permanent blind built on a little two wheel trailer, so I can park it wherever I want.

The rifle season opens Saturday morning, so I hope he volunteers. I've caught pics of a few others, too. About 10 years ago, I shot a monster buck and told my wife that every one I shoot from now on will probably be a disappointment.

Guess we'll see.

I have his twin showing up on my trail cam. I'm looking forward to getting in the blind this weekend with my crossbow. Hopefully I can get him before rifle season opens up!

Why would the next deer be a disappointment? Are you hunting for the horns or the meat?
While I have hunted in the past, and would like to do more in the future, I find trophy hunting to be distasteful.
You can't eat the horns. They don't even make good soup.
I would be happy with any deer that I got regardless of the size of the horns.

I was kidding on the disappointment bit. I'm really not that picky. I'm not one to sit up in a tree or in a blind freezing for a week hoping for the "big one" that might never show up. I'll take anything respectable and be done with it.

That monster that I shot, I didn't even realize how big he was until after I'd shot him and walked up to him. I'd gotten a glimpse of his rack but it was hidden behind a tree when I shot him.

I got my revenge on a nice buck on Monday. There is still 4 weeks of deer season left but I can not go because I filled my tag. I will be able to hunt after the regular season closes as there is a late muzzle loader season but by then I am out of the mood.

I allow hunters on my property. The rules are no bucks. They can take all of the doe's they want.

Listening to probably 95% of the hunters around here, you'll find that almost every one of them is big bucks hunting. Last week the jerk that owns adjoining property to one of our farms saw my brother shoot an 8 point that walked by. First deer by him, on our property. The neighbor does nothing but trophy hunt and saw my dad the next day and told him to tell my brother not to shoot small bucks, the one he shot would have been really nice next year. My dad told him we aren't picky, and if he would have liked us to pass on him, he was welcome to pay for the seed and crops they damage. Can't stand people like that. I'd like to see the things disappear, or at least go back to the numbers they had in the 1800s.

Good luck with that. Most guys will only shoot a doe at the last moment of the last day hunting....:)
