Chickens with soar legs

I have three young (8-5 months old) hens that have a soar leg. They will put some weight on it but still hobble around. I segregated two of them and put a couple of aspirin in their water. I don't notice anything visibly wrong with the legs. They move their toes and push against my hand with the foot. I have my highest roost at 48" with a plank going down at an angle from the roost with gutter screen stapled to it for traction. I wouldn't think the roost is too high as I never had a problem before, even with them in the rafters at my parent's place. Also my old hens (5 years or so old) don't have any problems. I had to put two young pullets down a couple months ago because they got worse.

What do you think might be causing this? I have had chickens my entire life and never had a problem like this. Thanks and can't wait for the editing feature to be usable again.

I have a COUPLE OF DUCKS WITH LEG PROBLEMS. I THINK THERE BIRTH DEFECTS or is that hatching defects?? Or it maybe due to, to much cross breeding. I know every few years I try to buy a few new chick so as to get new blood in my flock. I hatch out a good many most every spring so cross breeding can become an issue

We've had a couple of our birds come down with something we were told is called bumble foot but you could see there was something wrong with the feet/legs. They limped and it kept getting worse, we weren't willing to spend the money to have it fixed so they became soup, not sure if it even can be fixed.

If you're referring to this problem being a genetic defect it would more likely be caused by inbreeding where you are limiting genetic diversity not outbreeding of which cross breeding is one form

Just talked to a friend with a few chickens. She said high levels of ammonia in the bedding can cause that.

Check for Bumblefoot, it's an infection. Look at the bottom of the foot for a swelling about the size of a small marble
shouldn't have any trouble spotting it.

It isn't bumblefoot, checked for that. The bedding is clean and we are feeding Purina layer pellets. The chickens were bought from Rural King so I doubt any problem with inbreeding. I added electrolytes to the water in case they were running out due to the hot weather the other week. I will keep you all informed and will call Purina Monday morning.
