So I have my sons iphone since he got a new one for work...

I want to get hands free that works well out in the field.. on tractor, in skidloader, etc.. Also would like it to have voice command capabilities..

What do you have or use that works...

The truckers that drive for the elevator you blue parrot and the style that is like a single headphone that hooks over your head, not just in the ear.

I went on Amazon and got the cheapest trucker head set. Was worried as it only cost $15.00. But it's great I can hear on it and everyone I talk to says I'm very clear. I can't even pronounce the brand of it.

Blue tooth is an earpiece that hooks over your ear or can be like an hearing aid. It communicates with a smart phone, like a remote control. I really like wearing one when driving. I just touch the switch on the outside of my Motorola earpiece and say "call". the lady in the smart phone asks "Ok, Who do you want to call?" just say a name of someone in your contact list and she will say " Calling so & so'.. then when the call is answered, you just talk, no picking up your phone, or taking your hands off the wheel again. When you end the call, the other party hangs up and so does your phone, no touching anything. There are more things one can do by just talking...
There are basically two types, one is good for 30ft from the phone, other up to 300ft. Right now I cannot remember the two labels...

WITHOUT coming across as a *&%^)O*& here, from your post it seems like you are not on the tractor or skid as a part of employment, or required to be "on call"?

If you are over 15, on your own land, and/or driving the machine as a hobby WHY do you need "hands free" and "voice command"?

Leave the &^%$ phone in the truck and enjoy your tractor time, IMHO!

Or NOT?

Will be interesting to see if anyone else cherishes their solitary tractor time as much as I do!

I've been using the LG Tone. Hangs around your neck and ear buds retract in when not in use. Lost several of the ones that hang over ear while out working. Seem to work fairly well.

I know there are folks out there who spend a lot of time socializing on the phone, or maybe running their business, but I'm not one of those people. Only time I would ever use a phone in the field is if something went wrong; break-down, wife needed to contact me.........no, just break-down! *lol*

My hearing aids work great with my IPhone. I answer it by swiping the phone and can hear thru my aids great. They are VA issue.
But if I'm in the field my phone stays in the truck or at the house. I'd probably loose it out of my bibs if I carried it to the field.

I dont offend easily.. so appreciate your comments.. Im not a huge iphone user thus the reason for having flip phone till just last week.. But it didnt cost me anything and I have had times when out in the field it would have been nice to have access to parts online diagrams.. etc.. Im the guy that gets ------ when someone answers their phone in front of me instead of letting it go to voice mail.. or the guy that comes in my shop and takes a call on my valuable time..
If I ever receive calls I let it ring and go to voice if with someone.. my two cents..

Good point on the earpiece and enjoying the peace from it all, may leave it alone for now see how it plays out.

thanks

I have a Blue Parrot that works great in the cab of the tractor's or truck. Also have a bluetooth radio in one of the tractors so I can play internet radio from my phone over the tractor speakers.

As far as talking on the phone in the tractor, it comes in real handy at times. When you spend 8-10+ hours (usually most places "normal" business hours) in the tractor a day on occasion its nice to be able to talk to a customer, the wife, service department, parts guy, insurance company, etc.

I have had a couple Blue parrots. They put a clear voice in my ear. I need distinct language to listen to or I don't understand the words. The Blue parrot does put out distinct sounds. Downfall is it doesn't stay in place well if I am wearing it while working in the shop. If I lean forward it wants to fall off. Downfall #2, the other ear is open to outside sounds. Any sound interference at all affects my ability to hear words. I sometimes have trouble understanding voice from the blue parrot even in a quiet cab. For the normal person this is not as much of a problem.

My son uses a Bluetooth headset with a hearing muff over both ears. I don't know the brand name. He can work in a fair amount of noise and not be bothered, but he has good young ears too. Until just recently he spent his life in a truck, now he turns wrenches on trucks but he is constantly using the blue tooth while he cranks wrenches, to manage his trailer leasing business. When I walk into his shop I don't know if he is talking on the Bluetooth or not so sometimes he holds up his hand if he is listening to someone on the other end when I start talking.

If you drive a tractor with no cab or a noisier cab I recommend finding a Bluetooth that has a headphone for each ear. If you don't hear well I don't know what to recommend besides getting expensive Bluetooth capable hearing aids. My hearing aids don't have Bluetooth capabilities so I quite often pull out the hearing aid in the ear I hold the phone to. I would love to have Bluetooth capable hearing aids but don't want to fork over the money for them.

Those deals have made many nice guys rude. You can be carrying on a conversation face to face and next thing you know they are talking to someone else and you are standing there looking silly. Politeness dictates one only tries to talk to one person at a time unless it is a group thing.

I also have one that covers both ears and you can certainly hear the call better in loud environments. Downside is you don't hear what is going on with your equipment nearly as much. I like listening to my tractor, mower, rake, baler, etc as well as the phone conversation.
