We have an older guy that does this work he is very good and gets work form all over the country and world. (Yes the generator on a 1932 Bugatti or some such from Chile was sent to him to repair) Jocco had a generator problem so took it to him for repair 12v delco. Exspected the worse and told him no hurry don't need it till Sept. He was puzzled and told me to hang on for a few. Tested it 0 volts then tore it down Fixed some minor wire issues and worked on the regulator and now 14.4 volts. Talked to me the whole time about back when we were younger. NOW FOR PAYMENT NOPE WOULD NOT TAKE A CENT!!! "you bring in enough stuff for me to fix or give me used items for parts" SO HOW WAS THAT FOR SERVICE?? OH BOY PEOPLE WILL MISS HIM WHEN HE IS GONE!!!

Had an old guy like that here in town. He taught me a lot to where i can fix most of my stuff if i want. He was really an old school kind of guy. The longer you talked the cheaper it got. He is gone now and will be missed.

There's one here the same way. I broke the nose cone off the starter on the 1550. I had planned to just drop it off. She put it on the bench, told me to wait a minute, she thought she had a used one like that. She went outside, came back in with one, took mine apart and checked the bushing on hers for wear. The end plate was bent on mine from the armature moving. She hammered it flat and put it back together. She tested it and it ran. The bill? $15 for the used cone.

People like him are getting hard to find. We had two shops around where I live. Man was 95 thought it was time to retire. The other shop is run by a lady in a one room small shop. She can fix just about anything you can bring her. Can rattle off part numbers with no books. You don't get anything back unless she is happy with it. Don't have to worry about it working. She does require you to stop and visit a little.

I still do the same thing here,,my city wife don't understand it,,but us country folk do,,I tell people that friends are always ready to buy you a beer in town...but none of them will buy you a quart of milk...and some times i will tell a neighbor that I fixed free to make up for the times I have ran them off the road with a combine...these kind of things separate use from the "Mega Dealers"...

It would take 50 years in DC electric to even get close. I have lots of old stuff and can fix staters etc but he has parts. Most of what I have his crew looks at and points it to him. That Delco was a very rare one!

we have a small family farm supply and repair and are on our 65th yr with the 5th generation now ---daddy always old us the only thing we had to sell was service and he was exactly right--we still do a lot of repairs for nothing and end up making money with return business

Our local shop like that is not going to be around much longer as they are old. They really stay in business just to help out their loyal customers with old equipment. Great guys. The one that always did the radiator repair is done. The brother that does magnetos likes a good challange if I bring him something different.

I suppose these guys don't want to be so well known that they are over whelmed with work. I Would like to see a list of these guys that might want their phone numbers and/or emails known so they could still get business when THEY want it.
