i have a to30 converted to pertronix with brand new generator. doesnt charge, bum regulator i guess. battery is negative to grd. so its a negative grd system.

trouble is only positive grd 6v regulators are made/sold except the echvr56 at napa ....maybe.

can i use a std pos grd 6v reg and then polarize it by shorting briefly batt and armature while not running? or wont that work? will i fry something?

You can use a positive ground regulator.

The only difference is the metal composition on the contacts. It will work, but just for not as long.

Good chance the aftermarket regulators are not polarity sensitive, even if they say they are.
