I recently came across a photo of a Braden hand wheel winch in the photo gallery. The photo and a narrative was posted there several years ago by a Tyler Woods from Texas. I rescued a couple of these from the scrap heap myself, and I am trying to get more information/copy of documents associated with these 30s vintage winches?? I am also trying to locate and contact Tyler Wood to get information as well. If anyone has info to help me I would appreciate it. thx. cross3861

Do you have a picture of it? My neighbor has an old hand powered winch on the front of a doodlebug that he has. Just wondered if it might be the same kind

Yes, I have photos. I'm new to this forum and need to figure out how to attach photos. Let me know if you know how to do this.

First off, welcome to the site. You will have to ask the moderators for permission first. Probably easiest to make a post in the site comments area asking for permission to post photos. Keeps the riff raff from posting bad stuff. Then down on the bottom of your post, just click where it says "upload photo". I'm no computer guru, sorry for the vague explanation

When you are new there is a period that you cannot post pictures, you can ask the administrator for early permission to post.

I tried to attach the photo of the winch from the Tractor Shed photo gallery using the Advanced Posting Options but I must be doing something wrong - I don't see the photo attached, although the posting tool said it should be attached to my reply?? If you search the photo gallery under 'Antique Implement' and search for '1930S Braden 2-H winch' you will see the photo if you page over to the right 2 times. The winch frame is black, the 2 hand wheels on either side are red, and the drum and gear is silver. Ron.

OK. Where is the 'site comment' section, I didn't see it any place? I clicked on the contact moderator and entered the code word but I don't know what that did - it didn't allow me to ask any questions or make any comments??? By the way, were you able to locate the photo of the winch in the photo gallery submitted by Tyler Woods?

If you go back to the list of forums, it will be all the way down the list near the bottom. I'm not a real good searcher, but will see if I can find something in the photo gallery

I was able to find the picture in the gallery, but that one looks nothing like the one my neighbor has. I'll have to ask him about it next time I see him.

Thx for the direction. There were many styles and manufacturers of the old hand operated winches even back in the 30's. Usually, the manufacturer's name is somewhere on the frame in raised letters. The frames were usually made from cast iron or cast steel so the mfr. name and assembly piece part number were put in the casting. Look closely, sometimes they are obscured with many coats of paint.

Does anyone know who may have parts for old hand wheel/ hand crank winches - possibly someone dealing with vintage gears, wheel pulleys etc?? I'm looking for the left hand wheel for a Braden model 2-H hand winch. The wheel is a 5 (curved) spoke, 22" diameter cast iron wheel, pn 2H-106L or 2H-206L. The part number and 'Braden Winch Co.' in raised letters are on the outter side of the spokes. Any Leads??
