Lots of neat stuff,I thought maybe some of you may like to see it

The muck farm here used to have a boat load of those Army 6x6s. They had a place east of town and another one west or here. Every year there'd be a long caravan of them go by from one place to the other. I think it was longer than when the local National Guard would go to Camp Grayling.

That triple axle looks okay but I probably could not afford the tires. The worst is, I never saw any air rides.

A friend and my part-time employer purchased a deuce and a half to use around her farm. While it still had dealer plates on it (to get it home from the auction) I took my wife for a ride to visit several friends/relatives.

The ride was hot, rough and NOISY - even with earplugs. But oh what a fun!

When I was a kid dad and my uncle had a 1942 GMC 6x6 Stretched 4 feet to carry a 16 foot self unloading papec silage bed. We fed with it all winter, canvas doors, roof, No Brakes. I wonder now how we kept from running over someone! We estimated it carried 12 tons of silage.

Riding in the back of one of then duce and half's for 800 miles to summer camp just ain't no fun. You was about ready to let the air out of them eight tires down to five pounds.

Is that equipment U.S. surplus or was it privately retrieved from Iraq? Our local National Guard units all seem to be short on equipment after being deployed several times.

I got on Eastern Surplus's website and after browsing awhile I found a Deere 5010 industrial tractor for $4750. It looks like it came off a scraper, with the driver's seat off to the side but it doesn't appear to have ever been hooked to a scraper. It has four hydraulic hoses in back and a 1000 RPM PTO. So see, Larry your post IS tractor related. LOL

I need me one of those big camouflage tanker trucks...
that should get me to work on snowy days.
Could brine my way to work then follow
the melty trail back home at night. :)

Can you deliver?
I still have glennster's checkbook from the Central Illinois Get Together!
Yer Phreind,
Jim

We buy Uncle Sam some neat stuff to play with. Of all the collections I have seen his is the most extensive.

Larry, that dump truck is a 5 ton. They were very good trucks,I drove one in Vietnam. They have power steering the deuce and a half does not. Would last forever if taken care of. Mine had a Mack engine, but they were all built to the same spec.

My great grandpa bought several surplus semi tractors after WWII. He had a trucking outfit before the war, but used the GI semi 's hauling pipe and oil field equip. Dad said those trucks were loud, hot, and slow. 45 mph uphill, downhill, loaded and empty. But they made lots of $$$, for the other side of the family.
