Had 5 hogs advertised on CL no bites for 2weeks,fellow emails wants to know if I'd be interested in trading them for some firewood.Yep I heat with wood and don't need the hogs.
He trades me 3 cords of wood for the hogs and its at least 3 cords probably more.Anyway he's happy with the deal and I am too got a nice big pile of Oak and Hickory all split and ready to burn as its dry wood cut down last Winter.Anyway everyone rags on CL but how else is there to connect on a deal like this one?

Sound great and both are happy.

I recently listed five furniture items of my mothers on CL. Sold the last item today. All were smooth transactions. I'm happy and the buyers were happy.

CraigsList is no different to anywhere you deal with the general population. Some just can't handle pressure. One shouldn't let it ruin their day(or several days)dealing with someone that irritate's them. Gripe and grump about the kid at Tractor Supply, whine and moan about neighbors, crab and criticize day in and day out will lead into a rut to nowhere.I see nut cases on the road every day but it doesn't make me stay home. I get half dozen screwball inquiries to each serious inquiry every time I run a CL ad but that doesn't stop me from selling or buying.

as long as both parties are happy
all is good
My dad always taught me that nothing has value except what someone else is willing to pay for it

I've gotten some good and fair deals on Craigslist. I might be getting a set of steel rims for my wife's van with some fairly worn snow tires on them. I offered $200 (about the cheapest I'll get a set of rims for) and he said if he still had them on Sunday he'll let me know. If they weren't so far away I may have offered more and have them already.

I do quite a bit of trading on CL.
Whether it be tractor parts, collecting free materials for deer stands, buying materials for our addition, getting rid of excess junk around here or whatever. About 90% of the transactions have been positive. I ran an ad in the barter section for a professional HVAC man to install a new heating system in our house and upsize it for the addition in exchange for me building him a new bathroom.
Had a sharp, licensed fellow take me up on it and he did the work about 6 weeks ago. It passed inspection no problems. I am due to start his bathroom here in a couple of weeks.
Like you said, where besides CL could you find a trade like that?

Traditional Farmer,
I'm a big fan of CL. I could write a book on my positive experiences. ex: I removed 10 year old goodyear tires with only 50k miles. They still had some tread, I just wanted new tires to take a trip. Instead of paying $5 a tire for disposal fee, I posted pics of my tires and sold all 4 for $10. The first person bought them and asked why I sold them so cheap? He was happy and so was I.

When a tenant moves out, I look at carpet and decide if I want to spent money on having it professionally cleaned or is it time to replace it. Instead of paying carpet installer to remove carpet, I post pics on CL. There are many poor people who want it. They say this is better than what I have now. Again we are both happy. It usually saves me well over $100 removal fee. People removing carpet can't stop thanking me.

One summer, it was so hot I couldn't work outside. I looked at the junk I collected and never used. I posted pics on CL. Sold over $1500 worth of tools and junk.

I can't really say I've had a bad experience using CL. I have found things on CL by using searchtempest.com. Found Jubilee in S, Ill. Sod cutter in Dayton, Oh. Post hole digger in Dugger, In.

I've both bought and sold and given away free. They say prices are high to expect negotiation. I try to price on the fair to low side so no need to negotiate. Usually what I buy is the same way. Funniest deal was when buying a camera lens we went to meet in a CUB store to "be safe" and found out we both work at the same plant!

Dealing on CL is not much different than dealing through the want ads in the local newspaper. Just an electronic version of it.
When you are dealing with the general public, you are sure to meet a few difficult ones. The majority are honest folks that are looking to fill a need or to get rid of things that they no longer need.
There will be scam artists anywhere you go. A few of them on CL do not make it a bad place. You just need to weed out the potential problems.
I have had many good dealings through CL. So far, no bad ones.

I was in the market for four original rims for my 2006 Dodge 3500 single rims. Checked an add in Kijiji (like CL). Individual stated he would take $400.00 Cash, in 20 dollar denomination for all four rims and tires! Tires were 10 ply,radials,17" summer tread. His about to be ex wife must not know about the sale.....:) I was given the address were we would meet. Tires looked new. We made the deal...I enquired as to if he was going on a trip as his vehicle was full of suitcases. "Yes I'm leaving TOWN" was his reply. Asked about the Truck. Truck was sold a week earlier with old winter tires.
I've always had god luck on electronic adds.

I've had many, many positive experiences buying and selling on CL, and very, very few bad ones. Definitely no more or less than any other medium used in trading.

The day before yesterday I drove into Illinois and picked up a 400 bushel J&M gravity box on a 12-13 ton gear for $800. Bought it for a friend. It was a 2.5 hour drive, but that box would have cost him $2000+ around here. There would have been no way to find that box on anywhere but online, specifically CL.

We've had lots of good experiences both buying and selling on CL..
Just recently we sold my MIL's car on CL to a nice young lady that
needed some dependable transportation..My MIL decided that it was
time to quit driving..

I've bought cars, trucks, tractors, tires, motors, etc from CL with good luck..I've
helped a friend sell several items on CL..

Did you get a hog butchered for yourself?I Like to hear about it,where you take it ,or do it yourself, etc,,,what you make with it etc..if you have time to post about it.Watched a video on you tube recently ,how to make bacon from the hog belly at home. Many videos on it,I want to try it someday. My friend just made capo cola and is going to make dry sausage(suproseta?)

I remember back in the early 70's my dad trading a hog to a service station owner for a pair of (saw dust tread I think) snow tires for his truck.

Larry we kill and work up a couple hogs a year,my wife is the meat cutter in the family. She makes sausage, cuts out the tenderloin, ribs and we keep the hams about everything else gets ground
up.Also cure a couple of the hams.Used to do more but now we eat more deer meat and less pork, she makes pastrami, balogna, burger and things like that from the deer meat.We have a room set up to work up meat and can vegetables.Pretty much what everyone did around my area back when I was growing up in the 1950's and 60's.
