What a difference a year makes as this year the soft red wheat we are harvesting is possibly the best we ever have grown and the best quality and standing perfect, but yes the price is in the tank just like corn. Vomitoxin just about made last year's crop unsellable plus I even had hail just before harvest.
 
I'm in Garden City Kansas satisfying my "harvest itch" for a few days. Fields where we used to cut 40 bu wheat are doing 80-90 and weighing 61-62 lb. Now if the rain would only quit!
 
Test weight was 61 in NEKS on hard winter. Yields were way better than I figured they would be. I haven't put a pencil to it all but rough average was 55 bpa. It got nipped with frost a couple of times so I was prepared to be happy with 40 or less. We are going to get drowned this weekend so I'm hoping the new beans will be ok. The milo stand is sketchy.
 
The winter wheat here on my farm made 106 bpa,one of the highest yields we have ever had, back in the good old days we were doing good to get 45bpa

Lots of 50-70 bushel wheat in my area this year and some never sprayed.....I heard of a couple of fields in the 80-110 range....50-70 bushel wheat doesn't make much profit but you hope for some good double crop soybeans following it...
 
We only had 175 acres,and the weighed over all average was 86 bpa, the last of the double crop beans are going in right now, just finished baling the straw yesterday..
 
Hard red spring wheat here in N central ND is really looking good right now, just finishing flowering. Now if the severe t-storms will stay away all should be good.
 
Is Spring wheat planted in the Spring ? Our wheat is planted in the Fall hare, and this type wheat is used
for pasterys,,cookies and such,, I think your wheat is used more for breads ...
 
Fixerupper: Is that on irrigated wheat or dry land?
Anybody wanting to think about planting double crop beans here better save his seed. If not then just send me the money. We finally got a shower this morning. First since Decoration day. Don't even know how things are surving.
 
Neat pictures. Years ago I always thought I wanted to follow the wheat harvest. My oldest brother was service manager at a Deere dealer in Strasburg Co. back in the late 80's and my son and I flew out to see him. We went on service calls with him and I remember one call the custom cutter had 6 7720 Deeres running in one field, pretty impressive. I asked the combine operator if it was fun-he said yea,the first day. The owner said the most they ever cut in one day was right at a thousand acres WOW------Tee

Dry land. The irrigated isn't yielding much better than the dry land except the irrigated has green straw.
 
Dad used to have a combine just like that. Was yours a square or round back? Most of the time dusty as heck and almost overheating one direction and then better on the return trip lol.
 
Keep those wheat harvest pictures coming. I always enjoyed wheat harvest in NE Arkansas when I worked at the elevator. It was fast and furious from about June 10th until June 30th. No days off and mostly 18-20 hour days. It always made for good money for a summer vacation. There is very little wheat grown around here now.

My grandfather went on the wheat harvest in 1905. He started in Texas and ended in North Dakota and Canada. He was 14 years old and had run away from home in Tennessee.
 
The first field made over 100 bpa best ever test weight just above 60' Its the soft red wheat a Pioneer variety planted into the dust last October
