Would some please tell me the true details of a Farmall BN? I know what an A is and what a B is but not what BN is. I've looked at a lot of pictures but no luck. Does it have a narrower wheel span than a B? Please teach me the details. I even have the letter book of Farmalls but it don't pick it out. Al

The BN is narrower than the B by 8in drawbar would also be narrower and platform also 4in narrower than a B outside of that the same.

Friend of mine has one with very low original hours. Very much like a B but not as wide. I've looked around on line a bit and can't seem to find much about them. I can take some pics next time I'm over that way if it would help. I think it has the same engine as an A. They are very popular parade tractors around here since they fit a trailer better then a B and are pretty light.

I am not a Farmall guy, but every BN I have been around was a tricycle front
With a REAL Wide width rear axle. My Neighbor still has one with 2 Seats side
by side between the fenders. I googled Farmall BN all kinds of nice Pictures.

A Farmall BN is a Farmall B with an 8 inch narrower wheel track at the back. The width of the rear axle carriers is the same as a Farmall A (4 inches shorter than a B and the seat support is the same as on a Farmall A, attached to the end of the axle housing. The drawbar is narrower to match. All other features are the same as for a Farmall B,

If the B axle hsgs are the same as the right side of an A then an A would be 8 inches shorter than a B if the A had two axles of the same length. So the A and BN are small width tractors and the B are 8 inches wider and I don't know about the C which must be wider. What tractors had wide and narrow front ends? Also what tractor got the tri-cycle front ends ? Many thanks to all who have contributed to the clearing info of which was confused. Al

As said, the B and BN are the same tractor except the 4" shorter housings and corresponding 8" narrower drawbar. You can spot a BN easily if equipped with the original seat by the seat support almost touching the fender on the BN. There will be a 4" gap on the B between the right fender and the seat.

The B and BN came with a narrow front, either two wheels or a single wheel. The A only had a wide front.

Not that things haven't been mixed and matched over the years but above is how they come from the factory from what I know. I've even seen a picture of a B without the axel housings, not factory. Talk about narrow!

I think what has you confused is the offset setup of the A. Assuming that no modifications have been made-
The A has an 18 inch axle extension on the right side ONLY. There is no axle extension on the left side, the left final drive/drop box is bolted directly to the differential case. The seat bracket will be tight against the right fender, it will have a wide front axle.
The BN will have an 18 inch axle extension on BOTH sides, seat bracket will be tight against the fender, it had single front wheel.
The B has a 22 inch axle extensions on BOTH sides, there will be a 4 inch gap between the seat & fender. Front had narrow, 2 wheel setup, although I think single front wheel was an option.
Engine, transmission, gear train was the same for all 3 models.
The C was a completely different machine, replacing the B in 48. Engine & transmission the same, but axles extended directly from the differential with sliding hub style wheel spacing. The seat platform was on top of diff & centered, along with steering wheel.
I know this is as clear as mud, but it covers the ground.

We did that in high school shop class just
dropped the axle off and bolted right up
it had a bad motor and made a good
demonstrater.

Here is a Farmall BN with dual front wheels.
