Windows 10 question

This stupid computer downloaded Windows 10 on me. How do I set the home page on Internet Explorer? I've always used YT Tractor Talk before. I need to reset it. I don't want to look at a politician pointing their finger at me every time I get online.

I hope somebody knows where. I've clicked everything on there. I clicked that pin thing, thought maybe that was it. It wasn't.
I went down to settings in the lower left too. Couldn't figure it out.

Randy Look in the upper right hand corner for three horizontal lines. Click that and it will take you to settings. You may be able to do what you want to do there. My computer did the same thing last weekend and it's taking me awhile to get used to it. It did save all of my bookmarks including YT but downloading pictures off of my phone or camera is totally different and I haven't got that figured out yet

That's right; click on the 3 dots.
The last thing on the menu is "SETTINGS".
You have to figure it out from there.

The 3 lines is BOOKMARKS, on mine anyway.
I don't care for Windows 10 either.
My version of Microsoft Word will no longer work (it will if you pay).

Windows ten did the same thing to me. I had to reset my passwords on YT and a few other places. Just a few things to get used too, I like it. I think my computer runs faster too. Sooner or later you will have to change, win 7 will go the way of win XP. geo.

Did all that. I guess I'm just stuck with the brainwashing site they want me to start up with. If I have to look at politicians every time I get online,I'm ALL done with the internet. My nerves won't take it!

I'm glad you like it. This miserable piece of pond scum is running slower than dialup now.

Mine was just the opposite, win 7 was running at dial up speed at the end and win 10 way faster. I'm guessing MS may have intentionally slowed my win 7 down. geo.

The wiffey's cumpuker got hijacked by windows 10 also. It blackscreened her puter. She tried to cancle it before it blackscreened, but nothing would stop it. She has a Dell Total Protection contract, and called them when it blackscreened. She was on the phone for 4 hrs with them and they got it to come back up, but not functional. they gave up and sugested that it had a harddrive problem and sugested that she needed to send it to them or take it to a local compuker Guru. She took it to a local guy and $150 bucks later he had it working with W-10. She lost all her programs for her sewing and embrodiry machines, and they are not W-10 compatible. Where do we file our lawsuit against Microsoft?????
This invasion of our computers is total BS.

When I bought my new computer it had Windows 10 on it but its still a little tricky,so I hired my computer expert to come out and set up my new computer, best $100 bucks I've
spent in a long time my computer with 10 looks almost like the old one did.And Mozilla Firefox is far better and more user friendly in my opinion than Explorer the computer fellow set both up on mine and I can go from one to the other.

Windows 10 comes with Internet Explorer AND Microsoft Edge web browsers, some are telling you the location in Edge.

In Internet Explorer, go to the web page you want to set as your page first, then on the upper right, right below the X, should be a house, star, and a cog looking thing. Click the cog, click Internet Options, on the page that comes up, click the button "use current", ok that.

Edge, the three dots in the upper right, settings, select "a specific page...", right below that in the drop box "custom", enter a web address, type/paste in what you want.

Internet Explorer is going to be discontinued eventually.

Also, a suggestion. Install this, immunize, it stops some of the behind the scenes stupid stuff.

OK,I copied and pasted. It comes up in a second window so all I have to do is hit the X and get rid of the other one. I guess that's as close as I'll get.

Do you know how to restore the last four years of Quicken 2002 now?

OK,something else now. There used to be an arrow in the address bar. I'd click that and the last five sites I'd been to dropped down. There are only about four sites that I go to regularly anyway. I can't do that now.
When I click the bar,it drops down and says "Top Sites" and YT is the only thing in it. Is there a way to add my email site, the local paper and United Producers site to it.

OK,got it. I understand now that the big E isn't Explorer,it's Edge. Royse's significant other walked the wife through reloading Explorer to the task bar,so that's all back to normal.

Now,where the H#** are my Quicken accounting files?

click start ,then control panel then internet options in the general tab just type in what you want for a home page then click apply......done deal

"Comes up in a second Window", not clear on what's going on. If you are in Internet Explorer, back in the Internet options, in the box above the "use current" button, it will list the page that will come up automatically. You can also have multiple pages come up in other tabs every time you start. Click in that box next to the house, and erase any you don't want. Probably guessing wrong as to your meaning.

I see a little down arrow next to a magnifying glass where you type in webpages, it brings up some recent ones (I don't use Windows myself, I'm just using it to assist here, also, don't know anyone that uses Internet Explorer, so I'm just going by what I see). I don't know if that will stay there. Easy way to get sites you want like that, I'd turn on the favorites bar. Up at the very top in an open area, not on a tab, lets say right above the tab area, or to the right of a tab, like I said, just an open and blank area at the top of Internet explorer (not in the webpage area), press the right mouse button, you should get a menu if it's in the right place, then select favorites bar. You should get a new space just below where you type in addresses. Go to a webpage you want. Up where you type addresses, to the left of the address should be a graphic. For example ytmag just shows an "e" for me now, ebay shows a multi colored handbag. Left click on that graphic, hold the button down, drag the graphic to the new bar just below (should say link while dragging), release mouse button on that bar, it should stay there, you can put several, I can explain that better if needed....

I'll look into Quicken.

I see that '02 should work, I see some people losing a "small" amount of data, others not. I am hoping you had a backup?? Good idea at a minimum to have a usb drive, and do the backup to that, at least one copy off computer, minimum. I also see that older versions of Quicken were kind of "stupid" and had multiple data files needed in order to restore, instead of just one like newer versions.

If you have backups, you could look through those. I don't know if '02 had this feature to hunt for files to restore. https://qlc.intuit.com/questions/148656-where-can-i-find-quicken-back-up-files-after-system-recovery

Otherwise, search for qdf files on your computer. Here are instructions I copied "Select Search box next to Windows logo.
In the Search box, type the name of your item (qdf).
After you enter a search term, select My stuff to find results for files, apps, settings, photos, videos, and music across your PC and OneDrive." Now, THAT should find your files. But, I highly suggest you get someone there a bit familiar with this sort of thing, with sensitive stuff like this, I don't like to do it "remotely". Not much of a way for me to determine from here if you are backed up well enough, or which copy of what's there is the right one, because the dates could be off, it could restore older, etc., etc. Searching is safe, you can see if any dates look recent, you could try restoring a recent one, IF you are sure it looks right. Should have the date and time there. If you don't see anything that looks right, there is a possibility that things got lost....

This forced upgrade to 10 is a little annoying, isn't it?

Royse called and got my Quicken fixed. Like I said,I had mistakenly thought that the E on the taskbar was Explorer. It's not,it's Edge. Joan talked my wife through getting the Explorer icon back so I'm back on Explorer now instead of Edge and everything is normal, right where it was before.

It was awful low of them to put that Edge icon right where the Explorer icon was and eliminate the Explorer icon.

Gotcha, finally..., and good to hear. Phone would have worked better than here. That Favorites bar could still be useful if you want to look at it, I found this article that shows a picture of it. If you are back to where you were, it's not needed of course. It just lets you save sites and be able to click on each one without going up to the arrow (just one click), and they stay there if you go to more sites. You can rename them on the bar.

Picture right below "As you can see, the Favorites bar is shown beneath your tabs", about third picture http://www.digitalcitizen.life/how-enable-favorites-bar-favorites-center-internet-explorer

Ya,I lost about two weeks worth that I'll have to re enter now that I look at it. It's there up to 5/24/16.
