This might be kind of a silly question, but that hasn't stopped me before. I'm looking to buy a track loader for the farm for the usual reasons, clean up brush, skid a few logs, use the 4 in 1 bucket to set logs on the mill, spread gravel cut in a few trails and cut in a septic cut in a couple creek crossings. Found a pretty good looking case 455c for sale list price is 19,500. New undercarraige, rebuilt deisel. 2300 hours. Any wild guess as to good start offer? I assume it's like a used anything, might not expect full asking price.

You may want to check out Auctiontime, its a pretty good barometer of prices on many different machines, auctions are every tue. through wed. mornings. I personally think 19k for a 30 year old track loader is nearly double true price, track loaders bring roughly 1/2 to 2/3rds of what dozers bring for the same model. I am not saying it is not a good machine because the 455c certainly is, I am just saying that you have a lot of room to negotiate if the seller gets serious, even with the new undercarriage and other recent work 12K should buy that machine from a dealer, 10k at auction.

I'm a long time owner of heavy equipment and LAA is right on. Not sure how comfortable you are with auctions, but you'll get the same machine for thousands less and I'd say 90% of those dealers' inventory came from the same place. Dealers have the same stories as a used car salesman and are like diapers, usually fully loaded.

Even if you have to hire someone to inspect a piece, you'll come out ahead if you haven't been around dozers or loaders before. A broken or worn out piece of yellow equipment can get expensive quick. Usually when a piece goes to a farm, that's the place where it dies.

Iron Planet is a good place to look also as there are machines sold at auction there that are inspected and guaranteed to be what they say or you can send it back. I have bought 12 - 15 pieces of equipment and dozens of attachments/support items on there and never had any trouble.

I've probably bought more stuff at Richie Bros auctions, they have them across the globe. You need a seasoned eye with you.

Hope you get one, let us know how it works out. Send me pics, I'll give you my two cents before you pull the trigger if you want.

This one sold at Ritchie Bros in Ottawa Canada on Oct 22, 2015 for about $7700 ($10000 Canadian).

Looks like a nice straight one to use on the farm.[/img]

D9 your email isn't open, not sure if it's ok to post link, moderator will remove if inappropriate. Pretty good Picts. Dealer says new sprocket
pads chains, plenty of adjustment left (most) rebuilt motor.

Looks good from what I can see. Got the paperwork on the engine? Run it for an hour if you can, check for unusual noises, smells, smoke, leaks, functionality.

Thanks dg, Hour meters are always right ha ha. It does appear to be a nice unit I like the forestry rops. After looking do you think I might get it
for 15ish? Really appreciate your opinion.

(quoted from post at 21:35:36 05/23/16) I'd ask why it would need a new engine at 2300 hours LOL. Fully loaded.

Me too. I'm not really familiar with Case tractors in general but the have an OK reputation. 7-10K hours or more should be about normal engine overhaul for most diesel engines to include one in a piece of construction equipment. My TLB has about 11K on the engine and it's pretty weak. Gotta do that this summer.

It's a nice machine from what I can see. I doubt he's gonna take that much off, but never hurts to try.

Track loaders are not highly sought after machines simply because excavators have taken their place and are more versatile.
