Local lawsuit

I didn't want to hijack David G post about jury duty.

I got called in for jury duty for the first time ever. I didn't get picked but a few of my friends did.
Local couple divorces about 5 yrs ago. They have been at each others necks ever since. Man sues for slander. Ex-wife counter sues for harrasment and distress. 4 days of he-said, she-said. Ex-wife proves the unflattering things she said about the plaintiff were totally true. So slander is dismissed. Ex-wife proves harrasment to the tune of $250,000.

Sounds like the ex-husbands attorney was pretty peeved that his client mislead him into a losing battle.

During the selection process, it was pretty clear the ex-wifes attorney was hunting for sympathetic women to put in the jury box. My friends told me that during the deliberations, it was the women jurrors that didn't think the ex-wife deserved much in damages.

Out of 100 people called in for selection, there was only 2 that didn't show. I was as trucker and I think the other was in jail in another county.

Sounds like he had a crappy attorney who didn't do much research on the case , bet he still got paid though even for losing...

Just got done with fed .now that was an education. Basically the prison official was opening an inmates mail . He had a public defender who didn't graduate at the top of the class and was poorly informed . The judge was super it started with 20 jury members and final count was 8 it took 4 hours to do that. The trial was 6 hrs long. The prison gaurds were already found guilty of violating his first amendment rights . We were to decide if the punishment that he got was for complaining about the violation and if he deserved compensation. . The thing is does an inmate have the right to send letters complaining about bad treatment to his lawyer? Don't forget it's your right to free speech

By stating "fed" were you indicating Federal jury? Many yrs back I got called for pool for Federal jury. IIRC I was "on call" for 2 weeks but didn't have to serve. If called to serve they stated I had to wear a "dress coat & tie" which I thought would violate my "civil rights". Of course probably no attorney would have accepted my civil rights violation case if I had chose to file it!!

I thought ALL inmate mail was opened, read, inspected, copied, etc...

I was writing to an inmate several years ago, trying to get his life back together. Best I recall when I would get a letter back, it was in an official envelope, the original letter and envelope were inside, opened, stamped with some kind of approval.

I wouldn't think they could let any mail come IN without inspecting it first! Think of all the possibilities!

Yes federal I'm on call through February
not much of dress code no hats and dress
respectful. Only problem I had was the
belt and shoes set off the metal detector.

The question was opening letters to your legal counsel and the right to privacy with your lawyer but writing to somebody and lying about staff that's the question and if someone should be punished for lying about staff

It is not my right to free speech at stake, once a person is convicted of a major crime and put in jail they lose many of the rights of free citizens, including the right to own a fire arm, voting rights, (except California) search and seizure in prison and many more. Jail is a good place to stay out of if a person values his/her rights or freedom.
