Snow squalls here , can't see across the parking lot here at times . Wind gusts up to 45mph and temperature dropping to -10F for the next two days.

Hi Larry, I know what you mean! I love my garden
too. Like you, my friends say why do you do it. Just
something I like. Others play golf. Not for me. My
3pt rototiller is a bit narrower than tractor tread too,
a bit annoying. My dad had one that was offset. Ed

I have a big Troybilt like that. Maybe a touch newer judging from the gas tank. Paid a fortune for it new. Used it one year and then it sat for most of 20 years in the garage. Hauled it out last year and did what needed doing to get it running again and we used it to plant a punkin patch out by the barn. Just occurs to me that I have no idea where that thing is. Don't recall seeing it out in the barn. Guess I better go out to the garage and see did I bring it home?

I also have a TroyBilt Horse from 1986-ish. That along with a Merry Tiller and my Farmall SA keeps me in some pretty big garden plots.

Your place is really beautiful. Much flatter and less lush here in Southern Kansas.

Larry, I am chompin at the bits to get started. Water is running out of my best garden and the others are too wet to walk on.
Plus it is dang cold here with snow in the forecast.

I sure love the looks of that little Ford and plow. I'm not a Ford man at all, but that is a nice looking machine. I've seen it on here before. Bob

If things keep going the way they are right now, I MIGHT be discing in my 2 fields in a month! One of them has about 1/2 an inch of snow on it (right next to the lake) the other has about 4 inches. Been raining a LOT, and they are calling for it all next week. Snow will be gone, and it will be mud, then maybe it will dry out a little and the fun will begin!!! ;)

Not a farmer ?

Only reason for that might be because you work harder at producing a crop than a farmer does.

You really need a greenhouse so you can be in love all year long.

Larry you can plant onion seeds now in a pot and a sunny window when the seeds sprout and get 4-5" cut them off to 2" when your soil warms you will be set to go. We panted ours a week ago and there up might be just a little early for us but they will be fine. We like to plant the last week in April onions peas and lettuce.

I couldn't plant with a jackhammer. Woke up yesterday to 11 degrees and peaked at 27. This morning was 15 but still sell below freezing. I know many, many others have colder temps but here is central Virginia its a real eye opener.

That reminds me - I was going to put new seals and
bearings in my TB Horse. I kept waiting for deep
snow so I was stuck in the shed. It ain't gonna
happen! We've had tons of rain but I've moved on to
spring jobs list rather than finish winter.

I'm still digging last years carrots...have about a 5 gallon bucket full left in the ground.
This year will be a treat for us, we suspended our roadside stand, so I will have a garden that can be weeded in a couple of hours, not a couple of weeks :D

Eldon (WA)- Sorry to hear about your roadside stand suspension. I always enjoy your pics of the
produce. Hope all is well with you and family.

Eldon (WA)- I just read your other post in "can't wait to plant". I understand, take care and good luck.

Yup, seed catalogs are arriving almost daily now. Gotta sit down and get to ordering soon. Usually have my orders in by this time.

I tilled a neighbor's garden yesterday. He wanted it tilled last November, but the weather turned. I was surprised, the moisture was just right.....he's not going to plant yet, just wanted to get the organic material worked in. My winter rye should start greening up soon if this weather hangs around.

You will have to settle for golden rye fields and lush alfalfa fields.....hopefully!

Now that is nice. In Al. I NEED a short day onion. Walla Walla will grow here but do not make large onions. I quit raising onions a few
years ago. Stated last year making a new bed with lots of organic matter and hopefully less weeds. Mounted the tiller to the tractor today
and was able to till a small area today. Will try the candies and vadialia this year. Great pics, thanks Eldon and Larry.

I broke all the rules on the candy onions. They are an intermediate day onion, we are long day (I plant them in March which I think helps). I plant in rows 44" apart....not recommended. I plant them too deep.....oh well, we consistently get onions from 1 to 3# in size. They are listed as short term storage....we still have 2 or 3 out in the garage....pulled in July.
