Pine Grosbeak. We had one at the feeder a couple years ago. The last two years we had Rose Breasted Grosbeaks at the feeder all Spring...just one pair. I thought they would nest in the yard but then they just disappeared. Our place is bird friendly with lots of hedge rows. I thought they would stay.

Nice birdie. For the past week we have red polls at the feeder outside the window ( in addition to the house finches and house sparrows). A few white crested sparrows and song sparrows around. Two types of nuthatches on the suet feeder, and our usual flickers, Downey woodpeckers, and chickadees. We like our birds. UNC in SW Alberta.

Dave H, I have had the Rose Breasted Grosbeaks out there for the last several years.
I always have Black Oil Sunflower seeds in the feeders all summer. I have fresh water in the bowls also.

They will always bring their young to the feeders when they fledge; its always the Male that feeds the young ones at the feeder.
The young have to be shown where the food is, it seems.

The link shows a picture from the farm in 2014.

I think the RB Grosbeaks are about the prettiest birds we have here. Maybe I will keep some seed out all summer and see do they hang around.
