box blade users

Good evening
I want a box blade but have never used one. I found a good deal on a 5ft. My tractor is a 65 ford 2110 3cyl with 14-9 x24 tires which is 6ft. Will I be happy with the 5ft?

Maybe. Mine is the width of the tractor and there are no tire tracks when I use the box.
You might be happy, depending how cheap you get it and what you use it for.

You want it to be as wide as your tractor. You will not be able to do as good of job using it if the tractor is wider than the blade. The fact it is a 5 foot one is why it is cheap. Wait for a six or 7 ft. one to come around.

It's a preference thing. I would rather drop a box
blade on my left foot than use one. I have one that's
still in the shape it was when I thought I needed it.

Now, give me a grader blade and I can work
miracles. My neck isn't what it used to be, but that's
still a satisfying job for me.

I would rather have a 6 ft. One other
thing most people don't know how to use
one. Extend your toplink till it doesn't
dig with the hitch in float. Then tip it
forward just enough till it just takes as
much dirt as you want. Then you can take
the hills and put them in the valleys.
Works the same going back. A Hyd top link
is handy.

I have an 8' 3pt box blade and love it. Have used it a lot and has paid for it's self many times over. Even use it to scrape
snow off the drive.

You will go nuts trying to use a blade that is narrower than your tractor.

Also, pay attention to how much aggravation it will be to raise and lower the ripper teeth, as that's something you will do fairly often.

I love box blades and old tractors with down pressure. Just like straight dozers you can cut ditches and slopes with them if you know what you are doing. One small thing I do is; Put a smaller pin in one end of the top link than it is supposed to have. You can raise it slightly and feather out material. you can let it down and cut without adjusting the top link. Use caution when cutting going backwards as it will dig as you lift. Case eagle hitches and IH fast hitches are great for blade work.

I'm with you, hate box blade, sold mine instead of dropping it on my foot. I made a V shape 3 pt leveler, works great on dirt, gravel and filling ruts in yard.

Get your blades wider than the track of your tractor.
I watched a knucklehead ruin a good gravel road one
summer with a 4 ft grader blade behind his 54" wide
tractor.
