Massey Ferguson 35 gas troubles

The Massey Ferguson 35 that I bought
will run fine for 15 minutes. After 15
mins it will sputter around and run
rough but usually not die. If I hold
clutch or put in neutral to take the
load off, it will clear up and run a
little better. I've cleaned sediment
bowl but it still does it. There is rust
that floats in bowl when it is running.
What else do I need to clean or look
into doing to get this thing running
correct. Thanks

There should be a strainer elbow where the fuel line attaches to the carb. Disconnect the line, screw it out, and clean it. If its is missing rebuild the carb. Make sure you replace the elbow.

There's a very fine screen in the top of the sediment bowl housing, gas has to go through it to get to the carb. If rust is floating around in the bowl, its probably stopping up that screen.

Trouble shooting 101 is needed here.
#1 as soon as it starts doing that check you spark. It needs to be a good blue/white and jump a 1/4 inch gap or more at all 4 plug wires. If you have that
#2 pull the carb drain plug and let the gas flow for a few minutes. Catch it to make sure it is not full of rust/dirt/water. The flow should fill a pint jar in 3 -5 minutes. If it does not work you way back to where the flow is slow. You should have 3 filters in the system. One is in the tank and is a screen which is part of the sediment bowl assembly. The 2nd one is a screen that should be in the sediment bowl it self and held up by the gasket and bowl and the 3rd one in the carb elbow. All of those need to clean for the flow to be good

Okay I will try the spark. When I bought tractor the man said he thought it needed carb work. He put in a new distributer cap new plug wires and plugs and the rest of on top of starter. The only filter I found was the screen on the sediment bowl that is held up by the gasket. Did not see the one in elbow at carb. I do have good flow from the carb drain. Just hoping to get this sputtering figured out so we can bushog

You know what that could be it. The plug wires that are on there look like truck plug wires. They are long and hang down and I thought the one on our old 601 Ford we had years ago were short and didnt hang like these do

Ya the carbon type plug wires if used on a tractor tend to break down and then the spark sort of gets lost on it way to the plugs so you end up with poor spark and then in turn causes poor running. They may even say suppression wire on them and if so yep you got's the wrong plug wires on it

It does say suppression on them so I recon that's the problem maybe. Where can I get the correct ones like will O'Reillys have them?

Couple things fuel related to check...

Be sure the cap is vented. If not sure, try removing it when the problem starts, listen for a rush of air. If it will sit up there loose, see if that makes a difference.

Look at the fuel line. It should be a steel line, not copper. Be sure it is routed as far away from the exhaust as possible. Could be a vapor lock condition.

Yes O'Reilly's has them but you have to make sure to ask for a true copper wire plug wire. Then you have to put the ends on them and cut them to fit. If it wasn't so late I could walk out the the shop and get you the part number. So if you send me an e-mail I'll try to get that number first thing tomorrow for you
