Hello, question. have a 48 8 n . there is a lever on top of the transmission just under the seat flex bar, looks like the p t o one but on top. is it to turn off the pump? have not had the engine running long enough to operate it. how do i know if i have a sherman transmission? sorry for the questions but i just don't know , might be stupid but won't know until i use it or know from some one telling me once,,,,,thanks

If it's about three inches long on the right side, it's the draft control
Up is position control (lift arm position is similar to control lever position)
Down is draft control (lift arm position is influenced by the draft load of a mounted implement, plow is partly self-adjusting).

The short 3-4" lever under seat is draft control for plowing. When plowing you flip the lever horizontal, all other 3 pt implements, leave lever vertical.PTO is engaged with lever behind left foot;,you must depress clutch first, and, you must have PTO on to run 3 pt lift. And the 3 pt lift only raises with clutch released, but goes down engine on or off.
If you have a Sherman auxiliary trans, you will have a lever on the left side of the bell housing, just ahead of the clutch pedal.Mark

Ok thanks for all that responded, like it looked as an add for free ice cream. Thanks to mark he took the time to explain it in my terms and why it did what. thanks to all

lotswork.........NO, it is NOT the "flush" handle. Its the selector for draught (plowing) or position (forklift) control. Horizontal fer plowing, vertical fer position. Yer 3-point arms will drift down in draft control, but will stay constant height in position control depending upon where you set yer hy-trol lever. (thats that BIG lever by yer hip that raises the 3-point arms) BTW, the 9N/2N does NOT have the position control lever........Dell
