Good Job! I built one myself last year, then traded it for a bigger/fancier box. I kept the running gear I built, and modified it to fit the box. I even built the wheels (with help from an Amish friend). I DO have the horse, etc, but she has an injured shoulder right now, so she is semi-retired!

BWM,

What a beautiful buggy. We live about 30 miles from an Amish community. A few years ago I had it in my mind to buy a buggy like that, so I went to the Amish to see what I could find. Talk about expensive! I think they were typically running around $2,000.00 each. I quickly changed my mind about buying one.

Congratulations on your project.

The guys here that restore usually go across the border to Mexico and buy tanned leather for their upholstery jobs. We don't go across the border anymore; State Department advises against doing that, what with all of the drug shootings going on.

BWM:

You can make the hoops out of EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing), and the "rag top" out of heavy canvas (ie: painter's dropcloth). Saw a buggy a few years ago where they had done just that, and it looked pretty sharp; although they had painted their canvas Black to match the buggy.
