deere emblem

I often see 1980s Deere's with the front emblem missing.
Ours (2040) is hanging by 1 screw.

On short notice my wife wants to visit her aunt in upstate NY so I would like to fix this tomorrow.
Is it possible to reach the back of that emblem and replace the 2nd screw or is it unreachable (which is why so many are missing?)?

Thanks,
Bill

The emblem had two studs molded on the back of it. They stick through the sheet metal in front of the fuel tank with two push clips on the back side holding them on. Usually one or both of the plastic studs breaks off. To reach the back side you have to have the nose cone loose or off to get your hand to the back side to install the clips.

Check with a local autobody shop. They have adhesives these days that are crazy strong and durable. Might be easier than tearing half the front end apart.

My 13 year old is mortified that we would use an adhesive.
My local dealer has the clip in stock and we will drive right by him on the way to NY but I think we will end up using an adhesive.
Way to difficult to work on a machine far from home, you never have what you need with you.

ya, adhesive or jb weld.
glop up the stud or broken stub of it, press it down, tape over the emblem for a day til it dries.

do something though.
I'm working on a 57 420, nose emblem is missing...
'ya want HOW much for that little emblem!?!'

My local dealer has the clips but we decide to not get them on the way out.
When we get there the 'pin' on the back of the emblem is broken, stuck in the hole.
A previous owner tried some kind of adhesive and next trip in August I will do the same.
Glad I didn't wast time & money on a replacement clip!
