Digging spuds on July 10th in NW Iowa?

The ground was heaving under the Yukons so I dug one up. Wow! They were planted on Easter Sunday. Marilyn and the grandkids have been freezing huge peas like crazy. The onions are huge. The only thing we did different this year is a fair dose of chicken manure had been gradually spread over the garden starting last fall and ending in April. I suspect a lot of 'divine intervention' has been going on from above. (wink).

Dale you know what our weather has been like. Near perfect for the most part. A little wet and cold for may and some of june but after that it shaped up nicely. We did get on the ball and planted the garden early but it took three weeks before the spuds cautiously peeked out of the ground after they were planted.

last year i dug yukons the size of footballs. this year i was lucky to get 1 golfball sized potato per plant. Its amazing what rain will do when it is sent in the right amount at the right time.
