Bill Knapp parts yard

Just wondering what was going on with the yard. I had heard that somebody planned on starting a parts business over there. It's been a while since the Knapp's were going. "Uncle Bill" was quite the character back in the day.

Uncle Bill from Penomite Hill. Yes chase those little pigs out from under that old trashing machine and the part you are looking for should be right there.

I wish someone would run it but I don't know how anyone is going to clear the brush so you can find anything. I've spent many hours in the past walking around there and occasionally found something I never knew I needed. He always started the conversation with "you're paying cash aren't you". I heard him tell a guy on the phone one time where he could put his credit card.

So the stuff is still pretty much there but brush grown up around it? Must be somebody in the family still paying the property taxes since it is sitting still. A parts business would be tempting but the market is not there like it was for small equipment parts and so forth years ago. Something I should have thought of doing 30 years ago.

googled this name and address for the map and did a satellite view, doesn't look promising

I heard about that place a few years ago but have not yet been there. Tried calling but no ans, was told relative was trying to run it weekends or some such. Any one know if there are any Schramm tractors/compressors there. Really need some parts for them.

My understanding was that quite a few years back a nephew was running it but he died unexpectedly. Then several months ago somebody said that they had "heard" that somebody was looking into buying the place to run as a parts yard. I had forgotten about that comment until today when I was looking at the Ford N board here. I think part of the problem when it last did run quite a bit of the inventory was out of date for the demand. I think the tractors had gotten kind of depleted for usable parts. I remember Bill saying over 20 years ago that parts tractors were getting to expensive for his taste. This was about the time the restoration craze of the late 1980's and the 1990's was getting started. His tractor line ran heavy into IH and Oliver IIRC.
