I need to work on the shifter on the PTO on an H Farmall. It shifts sloppy and sometimes doesn't stop right away when you push the shift rod down. Something is worn or loose in the shift mechanism. And you don't need a PTO that doesn't stop instantly when you shift it out. I'd like to pull the PTO out of the rear end to work on it.
Is there anything to look for, or do you just unbolt the PTO unit from the rear end housing and pull it out? According to my manual, the PTO shaft just mates into another stub shaft inside the rear end. I'm assuming you just pull it out and nothing will fall apart inside the rear end.
Any words of wisdom?
Thanks in advance.
