Sent mine in 3 weeks ago and see a deposit in my account today....course it was little. I don't let the feds use my money. People that count on their tax refund need to re-adjust their deductions.

Ditto. All $60. of it. Now I'm looking for a new car or maybe just go out to eat a time or two. TDF

With only a $60 refund it sounds like you have your withholding set up perfectly. I've never understood the excitement people have with big refunds - this just means they gave the government an interest-free loan over the course of a year.

Yea that's always amazed me. You let them take more than you owe, use it through the year interest free, then act like you won the lottery? No wonder we have the government we do when people who think like that vote.

I don't think they need to change anything. It is done so that at tax time there is not a supprise shows up and they have to come up with a lot of money that they cannot come up with. Lot better to let it be used a while than due to something unexped making you go hunting for a loan that you cannot get to pay an unexped tax bill. If you are setting with so much cash on hand you can cover that unexpected tax bill then you are better off than most people.

Now that I'am retired I pay in. Give Federal $600.00 over what was already taken out and State gets about $2,400.00 a year.

I e-filed a very large number of tax returns of all types this year. I won't tell you how many...I was raised that certain info was private and not for broadcast...but I digress. Not one person has called me and asked me the "what's up" question this year. If your return has been circling the runway that long, it is time to call and speak to a real person and get them to prod it along. I had a couple folks with this issue on 2013 returns and there were various stories about the returns being "looked at" and such. If they give you the runaround a couple of times, contact these guys...

I am far from being rich but far from being poor. Add in that our total debt load is under 40K. We generally have enough cash available that we can cover an unexpected 1k or so tax bill. Done that more than once. Sad part is I know people who make more than we do but are so far in debt that they live paycheck to pay check. Those are choices they made that put them in that condition. We simply made other choices.

Personally, I don't care whether I owe or get a refund (very rare). I pay attention to the percentage I pay. This year I owed a total of $1,700 to state and federal, but my percentage of gross to both was 10.27%. I will gladly take that any day and pay in April.

leroy, we live in a country where we see poor intercity kids, by dent of hard work academically graduate high school, go to college to go on an earn a decent living. We even have programs where a low income person can go to school on the government dime so they too can earn a decent wage. So basically the "fait, karma, destiny and whatever" reasoning is flawed and is used to cover up poor choices a person made the failed to correct.
