want to get rid of dish network, cost to much and do not get very good programs,do the 150 mile antennas work good and how many channels can you get I'm located in NW Wisconsin,so I would be getting channels from the Minneapolis MN area.thanks for any help

There are a couple of websites that will help you determine how far you are from stations and the level of antenna and amplifier you might need. The biggest unknown is your local topography, trees, hills etc. will have a negative impact on reception.

I am trying to deicide if I want to drop cable, tired of the price increases and games they play, I set up a temporary pole with an antenna to determine what stations I can pull.

Good luck

With the new Digital signal your lucky if you can get signals form more then 75 or so miles. In my area we have stations about 75 form us north or south but only can get say maybe 10 tops. That is my moms place and she lives on a hill me I can not get more then maybe 2 or 3 due to being in the valley

I have an antenna and an old tv. I have to use the converter box with it. I can get probably 25 channels with it. We get a lot of the old movies and other old shows from way back now. We still enjoy them. And they are all free. I am about 60 miles from Atlanta and have always used antenna. I remember back in the late 50's when we first got a tv we had 3 channels. On Saturday most of them just had the test pattern on the screen until mid morning. Tommy

When antenna tv went from analog to digital a few years ago, most of the stations are now received on UHF and not VHF. You don't need that big antenna anymore on your roof.
There are so many options now, why pay for television?

Guys below have it about covered. Secret is location, location, location. Higher the better. When they took broadcast TV to digital, they moved transmitters up the frequency band - substantially. Where they are now there is little or no bending of the radio waves to follow the curve of the earth. In other words - line of sight. Thanks FCC, the rural users took a beating on this one. Your best bet is if you can get your antenna up high - very high. Then you may need to rotate antenna, and possibly even a preamplifier in line somewhere. Then you're at the mercy of your local broadcasters. We get ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and a bunch of junk on secondary channels, many a night there's nothing worth viewing. Daytimes are even worse. Check an online source for what's possible at your location, temper that with a lot of wishful thinking. There will be times when regularly reliable stations will disappear for various lengths of time, nothing you can do about it, but wait for conditions to change.

Getting 50 plus channels here in Central NC from Roanoke to Charlotte with 30+ year old outside antenna, rotor, and amplifier. Wired coax to UHF part of antenna only.

got my antenna from sportsman guide. like $25. even has built in rotor. I called dish and found a $21.09 programing plan that kept my local channels and i get about 10channels worth watching including history channel. told them under $25 and they came up with one just over, i told them that is was under 25 or i was gone. said the only way they could do it was cancel the service contract. I said cancel. they said if something happens, they have to charge me a service charge. i told them, it was no problem as i would just cancel then. been actually happy with this set-up. I get about 10 stations on the antenna and can usually find something to watch. if your an ESPN person, this plan has no sports!

The antenna might say 150 miles, but that is if it is high enough, my 150 mile antenna is good for about 70 miles

We got rid of Direct TV years ago If you have a computer even a laptop its easy to hook a monitor to it. Buy Netflix $8.00 a month All the movies and programing a person could want. You wont regret it best money I ever spent even a kids section that is great when the grandkids come over.

I bought a 35 mile hdvt antenna from amazon and it works pretty well, but I am on top of a hill so that helps. It's just stuck on the wall over the tv. I think I am about to go to the cheapest Dish package now that I no longer need FX (Justified is over) and between the antenna and that, I think I can get everything I want.

So Direct TV went up to $95 a month...enough already.

Just did my antennas over the last couple weekends.

Started with the first antenna pointed towards Cincinnati (I'm 50 miles SE in Adams Co. Ohio).

Added the second antenna on Friday pointed towards Lexington.

Used 2 different RCA antennas, one a model ANT3038XR, the bother a model ANT3036W, used a Winegard amplifier.

Getting 32 channels, still nothing to watch...but (except the equipment cost) it's free
