Amazon Prime Membership

At Christmas, I wanted to buy a gift, 4 bar stools. I could only find them on Amazon. My sister is a big fan of Amazon Prime. So she ordered them, I paid for them with my CC. 2 days later there were delivered to my front door, 4 large boxes.

Sister pays $99 a year for Amazon prime membership. She does a lot of shopping in Amazon. Claims her membership is paid for, free postage on any order not just some over $25, in one month.

So, I checked into it. Thought about it. Waited, First offer Amazon sent me was one free month. Waited, Second offer Amazon sent was one year for $72. So I decided to bite on second offer. While filling out application, Amazon sweetened up the offer by taking off another $30 if I get a Amazon CC. So for $42/year I have Amazon Prime.

Sometimes I do the same thing on ebay. Look at an item I want to buy. Wait a few days, ebays sends me an email, "Are you still looking for this item, lower price." So it pays to bait ebay and wait.

Even if I don't buy a thing from Amazon, I think I coming out ahead of the game. The Boss likes to read books with Kindle off Amazon, which some are free. We currently have netflix, about $8 or $9 a month. There appear to be some of the same free moves to stream off Amazon.

So if all I did was steam movies, I would be close to the price of netflix. Not to mention free books on Kindle, free postage.

If you have Amazon prime, what do you think of it?

We like it. SHMBO has a Kindle also and reads a lot of the free books, and also downloaded her Bible for no charge onto her Kindle from Amazon. The selection of movies are limited compared to Netflix, but they're still free. The free shipping and two day delivery on Amazon purchases pays for the annual membership, like you said.

My daughter has Amazon Prime and she can let other family bembers us it also. I haven't watched that many movies on the TV part, but I order from Amazon a lot. Amazing the stuff they have and delivery is quick and free with prime

as wife cannot get out much at all she shopps on amazon. Most all grocries except pershiables are delivered to door. Saves me a lot of time at stores. We have extra room with shelves to store. Very nice to walk in room get supplies that most would have to run to town for most christmas shopping done from recliner!!!

I live far enough out in the sticks that going to get ANYTHING more involved than a loaf of bread is a 50 mile round trip. 130 miles if I need to hit an actual mall.

Amazon Prime is an absolute no-brainer for me. The UPS driver and I are on a first-name basis, he stops here 4-5 times a month. Just the savings on shipping alone pays for itself.

I also have a Kindle and read a lot, more benefits there.

Add to that the fact that I despise cable/satellite TV and all the freakin' commercials, so Prime Video gets a real workout too.

Win/win/win.

That $72 price was for yesterday only I think, didn't check today. It used to be around that normal price. I live 15 miles from groceries, 30 from supplies, so I order stuff often, usually cheaper than town anyway. Pays for itself easily. Also have Shoprunner free 2 day shipping, which I get for free for having an American Express card (blue card, no annual fee), signed up for that a couple years ago. Limited in stores it works though, it used to work on Newegg where I used it rarely.

Having capped 10/20GB Internet until last year (now 100GB), still getting used to being able to stream a little. I've looked briefly at amazon, do have some nice stuff but it's hit or miss. App is built in my tv. I don't like many new movies, it has some nice older ones, and a few decent shows. I also like the older shows and most of the ones I do like they don't have included. They also have streaming music, limited compared to the higher services. But if you have a tablet/phone, you can download them for offline use when not around Internet access.

Yes, the $72 offer was good only for 24 hrs. Bait
Amazon, look at prime and just wait. Good chance
they will send you something better. I call it Bait
and wait. Works on ebay too.

Just be aware after a year they will go ahead and charge your CC for whatever the renewal $$$ happens to be at that time.

I jump through the hoops to opt out of amazon keeping my CC on file, yet when they choose to do something like that the have the number and proceed to use it.

We have Prime. I think the cost is about $75/year.
Watch a few free movies and get free shipping on a lot of things.
Any more I will check Amazon for things like engine parts (rings, bearings, gaskets, paint, etc)before even checking any where else.
It doesn't take long to pay for the Prime membership just in shipping costs.

I've not yet fell into that Amazon Prime hole. I DO a lot of shopping on Amazon, and any order $35 or over gets free shipping, but takes 5 to 8 days to arrive, which really is no big deal. No big deal to build an order that totals over $35 either.

We've got a Kindle, but we both prefer REAL books from the library.

George, you didn't do your homework. As Hayfarmer wrote your sister could have shared her account with you free shipping, movies and all and it would not of cost you a dime.

OH well it only cost me $42. M sister has ordered things for me. Wasn't sure about the movies and books, I Can cancel it next year. Thanks

We have it and get our money's worth. Its 55 miles one way to any amount of stores, much more convenience to click and haveit show up in a few days. 2 day shipping usually takes 3 to here, but thats just how it is. Ordered some oil filters today for quite a bit less than going to a parts store. The wife and kids usethe movies, the selection rotates over time. Also save on sales tax, have to pay state tax, as Amazon has a call center instate, but don't have to pay any local taxes. Some of the cities add 2.5% tax to fund their local projects, that I get no benefit from. There's not too many days we don't get some sort of order delivered.

Do y'all ever wonder why all the shops in small towns are closing up and you have to drive 30+ miles to get something? Only thing left in a lot of small towns is Walmart with low skill, low pay employees that couldn't give a rat's backside if you fine what you're looking for of they carry it at all. Small hardware and auto parts stores with knowledgeable sales staff are all but gone. I prefer to buy in my own community and keep my money here, I don't care that things are a bit more than online. I just buy less junk I DON'T need.
