The local news is calling for Ice, freezing rain, wind and possible power outage. It's been raining for a few hours. Hope it goes around me.

I would take a foot of snow over 1/4 inch of ice.

Just filled up gas cans a few days ago. Got generator in warm garage. Hope I don't have to use it.

It was icy early this morning in NEAR and we had about 1/4" on the trees and power lines before it changed to straight rain. It's back down to near freezing and still raining. It may be a long night.

Yep, Below freezing until Friday. I've lost power for days when hit hard by an ice storm. Map shows I'm on the west edge. Indy area, where my two kids live, is in the center.

The water on the wood deck is just starting to freeze. If all the rain we got was ice, it would be very ugly. Hope it stops soon. So far no wind.

I was a 32 year Rural Electric lineman, grew to hate forecasts of freezing rain or freezing fog. Just knew before it was over the phone would ring and we would have to work for 40 or fifty hours before we could get some sleep. When you slap line with insulated stick to knock ice off, wire would break and take down a half mile worth of poles, good times!!! only good thing was overtime pay.

We really didn't get much rain before it statred freezing. Looks like it is still headed our way. The traffic on St.Rd. 3 is moving pretty good yet. Got 1-1/2" icecicles hanging on dinner bell and deck rails now.

I've seen the county trucks putting sand salting down.

So far, my temps are staying above 32, but not by much. If all the rain I've gotten were ice, I would be very concerned.

Right there is the reason so may from the Midwest, while in the service, stationed in California, stayed here when they got out. I worked with a lot of them. Myself I would leave, but too old to pull up stakes now. Stan

Stan,
I've been retired for 11 years. I've thought long and hard about moving too. Guess I'm too old to move. Haven't found any place I would want to trade what I have to move elsewhere.

I really don't mind the cold, the snow, just hate the ice, especially when it takes the power lines down. Our last ice storm didn't take my power out, but it did a lot of bodily harm, broken bones, hospital was busy, even killed a person who fell on his head. That was only a few years ago. Later I ordered yack tracks off the internet, locally they were out. Never used them. I'm hoping I left them in my truck.

I was very lucky. Last night, rain turned to freezing rain, then back to rain. 33 this morning. Large puddles of water in the yard that would have been ice. Most of the snow on the ground is gone. 34 for a high today.
THANK GOD FOR 33 DEGREES.

It was icy this morning in ne MD. I used chains
on my shoes to setout the trash. My neighbor was slipping on the ice. He started his wife's car so she could go to work. It was 32°F this morning. If it had been a few degrees colder we may have lost power. I have a Kohler 14k standby generator. Hal

Before I bought yack trax, the last ice storm, I took 1/2 inch #10 metal screws and put 10 in each work boot. I had studded boots. Like having studded snow tires. It keep me from falling.

I have 2 generators and 2 back up portable heaters. Glad I didn't have to use them.

Here's what I use on ice. My wife has a pair too. The former Southern State farm store sold them before they went out of business. I think Wal -Mart sells them. Hal

Hal, those things are a life saver. I forgot to put mine on one day last winter, also forgot there was ice under the snow. I fell while clearing the neighbors driveway. It hurt beyond belief, tore my pants, skinned my knee but good, just lucky I did not break something the way I hit that knee cap, it hurt for weeks. I suppose I won't ever forget to wear them again, and it reminds me that the older we get, the more dangerous any kind of impact or fall can be.
