Question about Kubota/Kverneland/Vicon

JD Seller

I know Kubota is wanting a "full" line of farm equipment to sell. That is a good thing. The more true competition the better. They could easily fill a market for smaller farmers/ranchers. The BIG two ( JD/CIH) are kind of treating these farmers/rangers like poor step children. AGCO just seems like they want to be like the big two when they get the market share they want.

My question is what products does Vicon and Kverneland have???

I know Vicon makes hay equipment like balers and mowers.

The only thing I know about Kverneland is that they make moldboard plows. I would assume other tillage equipment. So what else do they make??

Also why would Kverneland have an auto-guidance system??? Someone mentioned that they where providing that for the new larger Kubota tractors.

I know little about Kubota other than their small engines are really good. I have had several skid steer loaders with them. They held up well.

Vicon/ Kverneland is pretty much hay tools excluding small square balers, sickle-type mower conditioners, and side delivery rakes. Vicon did have three point fertilizer spreaders but may not any more. Kverneland was entering the planting market a few years ago with air seeding and row crop planters. They had some financial difficulty which forced the sale of bale wrappers, certain round balers, and large square balers to Kuhn. Kverneland also had rotary harrows which I believe they retained. In addition they have the CTC "one pass" tillage tool which they demo at the farm shows. I believe for North America (I have no inside knowledge) that it will be pretty much hay tools and broadcast spreaders with research ongoing for planting. To maintain market access I would guess they will maintain the Kverneland name for plows and continue marketing in North America via Cummins and Bricker which is in Western New York. Kverneland had offices in Quebec for Canada but Kubota may opt to eliminate that as it should be redundant for every place other than Quebec. The French Canadians may get indignant over that but it might be worth the risk given the new inefficiency.
At this point in time Vicon/ Kverneland does have wrappers available via another acquisition.

I think the final lineup is one that will not make KKV a full line supplier. There will be holes in the lineup such as in materials handling, forage equipment, and grain harvesting to name a few. Whether they have it in mind to acquire some of these lines if Case/ NH or AGCO has difficulties is yet to be seen but can not be ruled out if they want to reach more ag customers.

Funny you mention grain harvesting. Do you know that KUBOTA is one of the worlds largest producers of combines? Now before you laugh they are for the south Asia market but don,t be surprised if you here that KUBOTA is entering the North America combine market. Not a mate of if just a matter of when. Anybody want to guess which one fiat will sell, CNH or IH ?

No inside information but rather from what I have read.

Like any of the big players; You buy up smaller companies to eliminate and consolidate competition; OR to expand into new markets.

Just like Vicon is a sub of Kverneland Group; Kverneland Mechatronics (the part that brings the auto-guidance system) is a sub of Kverneland Group.
Kubota got the whole shebang when they bought out Kverneland Group a couple of years ago.

Kubota knows 2 things.
They have the rice paddies of Asia sewed up.
They can not play with the big boys in the U.S. unless they get bigger tillage; planter tractors.

This latest move into the medium sized market (hay) is just a step in that direction.

Also you will soon be able to buy that really good small Kubota engine in a Kubota skid steer.

Kverneland does indeed make superb mouldboard ploughs and cultivation equipment, including power harrows and seeder combinations. They also make rotary mowers both tripled and mounted including front rear butterfly mowers and trailed silage choppers.Vicon started in our market with fertiliser spreaders but also have disc mowers and hay equipment.....Kubota have just announced their plans to build higher horsepower tractors in Europe.....

I recently bought a Taarup disc mower which is a kverneland company and I have reason to believe that Kubota has acquired that company.

Kubota Canada's head office is in Quebec, not far from a big Kuhn office, maybe Kuhn Canada? I would be surprised if they merged the offices of Kubota and KV.
