yep, last year I couldn't find one ,this year I have found more than I ever have . fried some last night for supper.

real good mushroom, stronger earthy flavor. great sauteed, in soup, or fried with a steak and onions!!

Love steak smothered in them. The only two mushrooms that we would eat are the sheepshead and the Morels. We don't see to many of them are here anymore. When I was a kid ( years, years years ago)dad and I found one in neighbors woods that was as big as a wash tub and weighed about 50 lbs. and was still tender we split it with neighbor.

the sheepshead up here in n cent illinois only grow on oak trees, you find them very late september and october when the leaves start falling. you need some good rains too. a full moon helps, but not necessary.

Yeah, the "stronger earthy flavor" is kind of a downer for me- many just taste like dirt. The chanterelles in our area have a nice flavor, and I got some morels one time, and they were good. And the little button mushrooms that you get in the supermarket add some flavor to a steak when sauteed. But most of them that my wife brings home from her horse rides in the woods aren't so wonderful. Some she got last year got slimy when cooked, so it was like eating a dirt-flavored slug. A true epicurean delight.
