Can anyone identify this tractor?

It says Commander on the front and has a 4 cylinder engine.

Looks to me like a LA johnDeere with a different hood/radiator.Does it still have the 2 cylinder engine?

That is a John Deere L tractor as it has the 22" rear wheels and not a LA that has 24" cast wheels. But at some time some body replaced the orignal Deere 2 cylinder engine with a 4 cylinder probably for more power but they could have blown the orignal Deere engine.I am not familuar with that engine but it would be an easy conversion.

upon magnification it looks like the panel that states commando is welded in, probably from a jeep commando model from the early 1960's I believe their letter style was the same, unknown 4 cylinder engine, a good example of taking what you have on hand and making what you need

Thanks Leroy..I'm familiar enough with the JDs to know the difference between L and LA.Yes,it would be an aesy engine swap.Lots of 'old timers' did that sort of thing cause they were broke.......Got the job done!!!

Does the engine have sidevalve exhaust and overhead valve intake? straight OHV? A Willys stamp any place or a Kaiser stamping? Just mild interest note- a jeep engine tractor was made for 2 to 3 years mostly for export markets that had Jeep dealer support in about 1948 or 1049 to 1953 at latest or so- was end of Willys production, start of Kaiser time frame. Had couple different names for project tractor during production and market. Jeep company wasn't main pusher of the project, just engine provider, tranny, some bits and pieces- unlike Ford with the N series. Jeep did make a 'agriculture' version of the Jeep CJ2/3 series- stripped down body, lowest gearing and power takeoff, hydraulic pump and later a 3 point hitch. RN
