I know this isn't a music critic site, but hey,it's "country" music. That new song "People loving people" by Garth Brooks, does that thing make anybody else's skin crawl?
Not a big country fan,but I generally turn on WSM online when I'm at the computer. I listened to it the first few times they played it,but I have to turn it off when it comes on anymore. I suppose it'll hit number 1 since it's Garth.

I'm old school with my country music. (BIG TIME Marty Robbins and Hank SR fan from back in the day!) Todays "country music" is anything BUT country music. All that said, I am a fan of Garth Brooks. He's a dynamic ENTERTAINER. Saw him at Grand Ol' Opry. His act now days is a lot more subdued than it was in 1990. He got old like so many of us do. I'm looking forward to hearing more of the new upcoming album.

Havent heard it yet.

Im not a big Garth fan, but he is a great entertainer. It seems he could sing row, row, row your boat and it would go to the top of the charts.

That said, I really enjoyed the TV special he did last year. Talking about all his musical influences. It was good and pretty comedic when Trisha Yearwood came out.

Boy, me too! I don't go on a long drive without Marty Robbins cowboy songs!

I don't listen to anything but country music any more.

I cant stand the stuff called country music ,Now the old stuff, with Johnnie Cash,Hank Williams,David Allen Coe & Waylon Jennings or Williw Nelson that was allright. Songs like The Ballad of Poncho & Lefty tell a story . I cant STAND garbage like Taylor Swift Whining about her last relationship. Nope! The more "modern " music I hear the more I appreciate my old blues albums Paul Butterfeild,Charlie Musselwhite,Now thoas cats made some music

I remember a comedian a few years ago said..."Country music...what country is that from? It certainly isn't my country." lol

I'm telling you what! It sounds like he made it up on the spot and sang it out of key on purpose.

This guy summarized my idea of a country singer. I know he was country 'cause he grew up in the same backwoods area I did.

You are right on the money, just kind of odd!!!!

I like a lot of the newer country stuff, especially a few by Chase Rice, and Florida Georgia Line.

I REALLY like one by Blake Shelton though, "Them Boys Round Here"

You guys have to at least watch the first little bit with the old caddy and the "Big Red Ford" :) Bryce
Blake Shelton

Kinda like Adriano Morais when he was riding bulls. I watched him score 90 points one time for a ride that my Grandmother could have stayed on for. All some people have to do is show up.

Never heard it probably never will I can't stand country music any newer than the 90s total garbage I like marty Robbins hank Williams TeX Ritter patsy Montana that kind of stuff

That noise they call country these days does nothing for me except makes me change the station. I have several classic country stations saved as favorites on my computer in the garage most from the midwest .
Heartland Public Radio gives choices of country styles.

I have not heard the song yet. Not a big Garth fan hear. I do like some of his real early stuff like birds on a high line. I thought he got pretty to "IN" to himself when he hit super stardem. When he left his award on the potium, I think it was at the CMA awards) I said I would never go to one of his concerts. When he did 2 concerts in a row (Fri./Sat. nights) close to me, and let it be known that he would never play there again unless both concerts got sold out, I knew right then and there that I wouldn't even walk across the street to see him.

Of the "new all sound the same country" that guys not too bad. The only guy I would actually purchase these days is Jamey Johnson. That guy can write a song. But dude Cadillac ? I thought you were a GM family?

Just bought vinyl friday Patsy Cline with Jim Reeves . Can't wait to listen to it today. I did not know he did a joint venture with Patsy Cline.

I have a picture on my bedroom wall of me and Charlie Musselwhite. I am holding his latest [at the time CD] . I beleive it was Delta Hardware or a solo album where Charlie played guitart alot. Seen him twice ,once on a blues cruise on a boat and at the library. The Ringwood town library had a Harmonica Blowout show. Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson , Mark Hummael, one other guy I can't remember now. After the show I got a chance to meet him as there was no backstage for the artists to retreat to.

If you like the 50s & 60s country & have Sirius XM radio Try Willy's Road house. Some darned good old country, Hank, Lefty Marty Tom T, Hank Thompson and lots of others. We have it on the wife's car and can run it on the puter here in the house too. Keith

The Jim Reeves/Patsy Cline album was an electronically-reproduced blending made long after both had died---both in plane crashes within a year of each other. The pairing was like that of Natalie Cole singing along with her father Nat on some of his old recordings.

Yip that's where I stay is on 56 its 59 now they changed the stations around here since they came out with a new all gay all the time channel that plays music only from the 2000s. I like stuff even older than 50 60s I think pasty Montana recorded the she buckaroo in the 30s

I agree with just listening to the old songs. Gene Watson is one of my all-time favorites. I have been to at least 6 of his concerts. I do still enjoy most of the Marty Stuart shows on RFD TV, but sometimes he has guests that are not really country. I can't stand one of his regulars--Leroy Troy is plain stupid to me.

I know I know.... I was actually thinking of the wrong video, saw one on tv the other day, and I was thinking that it was this one... OOPS!! :)

And YES, WE are a GM family, good memory skills! :) Bryce

Sorry to say, but IMHO, Garth is all about MONEY - all in capitals!! Some of his music I like, but him as a person - NOT!!! Just a money worshipping over produced manufactured "star." Sort of like Linda Ronstadt. She was a good singer (good - not great), easy to listen to, but totally manufactured.

Now, if you like classic country music, not necessarily original, but well played, you need to go to YouTube and look up David Hartley and John Stannard. A couple of the best pickers since Chet. Also look up Nokie Edwards. Last I knew, he was around 80 years old and still touring. Well worth a listen!

If Blake and his ditzie wife would actually write a song, instead of some stupid chew tobacco spit, or some odd ball sounding song his wife sings, they could really be fantastic artists and go far. One station here refuses to play Taylor Swift.

I like Garth, but not impressed. I read a review of the song and the guy said "It sounds like a song Cartman from SouthPark would sing." Just picture that in your head the next time you hear the song. It makes the song worthwhile. It is amazing how simplistic the song is. I expect more from Garth.

when I first heard that song I recognized that it was Garth and I thought what a numb song! If he can't come back with anything better than that he should stay retired! It certainly shows that he is not a believer.

X100!!!! Jim, Faron Young, Marty, Hank Snow, Statlers, etc. This stuff since the mid 80's, 70's really, just stinks. Might as well listen to rap or hip hop. I'll take old country, old pop or celtic. Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, etc, that's not even music. That's just noise for commercial sales purposes.

(quoted from post at 14:50:34 09/10/14) Just bought vinyl friday Patsy Cline with Jim Reeves . Can't wait to listen to it today. I did not know he did a joint venture with Patsy Cline.

Can you tell me the name of that album?!! PLEASE!!! I've been looking for it for years. Friend had in on reel to reel years back and I could never find it.

It is called Remembering Patsy Cline & Jim Reeves. I had to be a much later release as I see the price tag on the wrapper has a bar code on it.. So I listened to it last eve and found the only duet of them both is the first song " I Fall To Pieces" . That one they both are singing . It is still a great album but if you have Patsys other ones it is the same songs. Hey not bad for two bucks -- no scratches.

C,mon you can't mention Nokie Edwards wothout mentioning The Ventures. Probably one of the greatest rock bands ever.

I have got to agree that his new song SUCKS!!! If this is all he can do, then he should've stayed retired. I don't understand why most country songs these days either repeat about 3 words over and over and call it a song, or there has to be a spot where they rap part of the song. About 10 years ago, when all the rappers and rockers tried country, I knew it was gonna die, and now it is officially dead. RIP mainstream country music.

It's dead alright. I get on You Tube and find the old ones I liked. Charlie Pride, Jim Ed Brown, Merle Haggard before he fell into the bottle, Merle Travis, Ernest Tubb, all the old guys. I don't like every old country song but I like enough that I can keep busy for a few snow bound hours.
