Ford 5000. (good deal?}

Hey folks.

I have been looking for a loader tractor for a while.

I was at a local ag repair shop getting a tire mounted and the owner had a Ford 5000 that he had taken for a bad repair bill.

The tractor has a good loader on it with a new high flow pump on the front, cab, and two remotes. Tires are about 70%.

Engine started right up, no smoke or knocks. Hydraulics worked good and easily picked up the front wheels.

Paint is rough and the loader frame shows several welded repairs.

He wants $5,000 for it. Any thoughts?

As long as it works decent that's probably a fair deal...
Just remember the PO probably knows/suspects something else is about to blow when he didn't pay the bill to retrieve it...

Sounds like a good price, I doubt you would ever lose on the deal. I bought a 5600 last year in about the same cosmetic condition you describe but tires only around 50%, it ran good and had a side boom mower instead of a loader, paid $7,000.00 and thought it was a good deal.

Was told by a mechanic about 12 years ago when I asked him what a decent 5000 would go for.He said "just about what it says on the hood".If that tractor, with a loader , is in good shape $5ooo.oo may not be a bad buy.

The neighbor has a 3400, 3550, 4000, 5000, and 8000 ford tractors. I have run all of the doing several different things, and I must say, the 5000 is my favorite. Seems to have WAY more power than the 4000, and one nice thing about it compare to the 4000 and smaller tractors, rather than sitting in between the wheels, you are kind of up above them.

The 5000 I think has pretty good stability, however this tractor that I run has taken a life in a roll over accident before, but we think it was operator error.

Parts are easy to find, and the tranny's were VERY good. I think that $5000 would be a great price for it.. Don't even look at the paint, if it runs/works good, someone in your little town would probably be willing to squirt some paint on it for a few hundred $ and a 24 pack... :)

If you were close enough, I would be MORE than happy to clean it up and paint it for you... :) Bryce

There's a couple jocky's around here that buy 5000
fords to ship to mexico.I guess that's a popular tractor down there. One of them told me they could get 7500 or more for them in mexico, and they don't care how rough they are.

would bring 7k around here with a loader on it... assuming its in good shape... maybe more..

if its worn out.. walk away.

5000 are great tractors.. early models had a flaky power steering. Later models were much better. Part are available due to popularity and interchange ability with new tractors.

Thanks for the help and info!

The seller has another fellow interested and said that he had given him a couple of days to come up with the cash.

If it is not sold I think I will see if it will follow me home.

My wife saw it and wants to drive it if we end up buying it!

Thanks again for the help.
